IPL 2021: Hyderabad hold nerve to clinch a thrilling win over Bangalore

Sunrisers Hyderabad reignited their mastery of defending low totals as they held their nerve to clinch a thrilling four-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 52 of IPL 2021 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Wednesday. Chasing 142, Bangalore needed 13 off the final over. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended the total with gusto despite a six by AB de Villiers to give his team some joy amidst a rough season.
Bangalore were given an early jolt with Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapping Virat Kohli (5) lbw with an incoming delivery in the first over. Daniel Christian’s promotion to three backfired as he chipped a catch to mid-off off Siddarth Kaul. KS Bharat (12) slammed two boundaries before falling to gloving behind off Umran Malik in the seventh over.
Rashid Khan’s first ball to Glenn Maxwell was hoicked over deep mid-wicket in the eighth over. When Khan returned for his next over, Maxwell took on him again, slog-sweeping over long-on for a six followed by a wristy sweep through deep mid-wicket. In between, Malik was beating Maxwell for pace. Maxwell’s partnership of 54 with Devdutt Padikkal ended in the 15th over as a direct hit from a sliding Kane Williamson at cover caught the right-hander short of his crease while taking a quick single. Padikkal’s painstaking struggle to break free ended when he holed out to deep mid-wicket off Khan in the 17th over.
Shahbaz Ahmed took eleven off Malik in the 18th over, including two boundaries, to bring the equation to 18 runs in the last two overs. Ahmed was dropped by Kumar at long-on in the start of the 19th over but pulled straight to mid-wicket on the fourth ball off Jason Holder. At the end, 13 off the final over proved to be a tall order for Bangalore despite de Villiers, who didn’t take the strike much in the innings.
Earlier, put into batting first, Hyderabad was off to a flying start with Abhishek Sharma hitting George Garton for a four and six in the second over. Sharma was dropped at deep backward square leg by Mohammed Siraj. But Garton dismissed him on the very next ball, chipping a catch off the leading edge to mid-on.
Kane Williamson got going with two boundaries against Siraj in the next over, creaming the drive through cover followed by a backfoot pull through square leg. He and Jason Roy cashed upon anything loose to take Hyderabad to 50/1 at the end of power-play. From there, Bangalore enforced a slowdown with Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Ahmed bowling in tandem.
Harshal Patel broke the 70-run partnership in the 12th over, getting Williamson (31) bowled with an off-cutter. Three overs later, Priyam Garg’s bid to go big ended in pulling to deep mid-wicket off Daniel Christian. One brought two for Christian as Roy’s middling stay at the crease ended with the bowler completing a quick return catch on follow-through.
Hyderabad’s troubles increased as Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Abdul Samad lbw in a successful review on the first ball of the 16th over. Two overs later, Wriddhiman Saha miscued loft to long-off on an off-cutter from Patel. Patel had his third wicket of the match as Jason Holder holed out to long-on on the final ball of the innings, which was enough on a sluggish pitch to win.
Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 141/7 in 20 overs (Jason Roy 44, Kane Williamson 31, Harshal Patel 3/33, Daniel Christian 2/14) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 137/6 in 20 overs (Devdutt Padikkal 41, Glenn Maxwell 40, Umran Malik 1/21, Siddarth Kaul 1/24) by four runs.

GODSENT ROW FOR BJP: Sanatan Remarks Strike Right Into Hindu Heartland

The Opposition has granted BJP a controversy on the platter with Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, asserting that Sanatan Dharma is against the notion of social justice and must be “eradicated”. Stretching the analogy further, he likened the creed to diseases like dengue and malaria, inviting sharp criticism from BJP leaders. Latching onto the statement, which could be godsend for the BJP just when elections in the Hindi heartland are around the corner, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said it was an attack ‘‘on our heritage” and shows that the Opposition bloc “hates Hinduism.”
Shah digs onto remark in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh
Addressing a public meeting in Beneshwar Dham in Dungarpur on Sunday, Shah asked the crowd if people were ready to accept Udhayanidhi’s remarks on eradicating the Sanatan Dharma. These people have insulted ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and are talking about finishing it off for appeasement and vote bank politics, the BJP leader said. (Shah’s statement resonated in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh)
“Is this the political strategy that the INDIA alliance drew up two days ago in Mumbai?” Shah was here to flag off the second Parivartan Yatra of Rajasthan BJP that will cover 52 assembly constituencies of Udaipur and Kota divisions in the next 19 days. Widening the ambit of his attack, Shah recalled Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s 2010 remark in which he had likened radical Hindu outfits to terrorist organizations and said that they were a bigger threat than Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“They also say there will be Sanatan rule if Modi wins”
Shah also alluded to former Home Minister and Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde’s remark that the BJP and the RSS were fanning ‘Hindu terrorism,’’ to suggest that these comments were not off the cuff but were part of a well-thought out political gambit. Coming back to Sanatan Dharma, Shah insisted it rules the hearts of people. “They also say there will be Sanatan rule if Modi wins,’’ he added, even as he clarified that PM Modi has underlined that India will be run as per the Constitution.
Accusing the Congress of blocking the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Union Home Minister said, “The grand Ram temple will be ready in January at Lord Ram’s birthplace. INDIA alliance cannot stop it. Congress had blocked it for years.” Shah recounted the incidents of communal violence during the last five years in Rajasthan and accused the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government of making the state hostage to vote bank politics.
He attacked Gehlot and said ‘‘he is scared of a ‘Lal Diary’ which has the details of his government’s corruption and black deeds.’’ The BJP is taking out four pre-poll Parivartan Yatras from four prominent religious places in the state. The first of these Yatras was flagged off by BJP president JP Nadda from Trinetra Ganesh Temple in Sawai Madhopur on Saturday, and the second by Shah on Sunday, while the remaining two yatras will start in the next two days from Ramdevra and Gogamedi temples
