India reports 5,108 new Covid cases, 31 deaths
In the last 24 hours, India reported 5,108 new Covid-19 cases and 31 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The new fatalities increased the nationwide death toll to 5,28,216.
The active caseload dipped to 45,749, accounting for 0.1 per cent of the country’s total positive cases.
The recovery of 5,675 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,39,36,092. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.71 per cent.
Meanwhile, the daily and weekly positivity rates stood at 1.44 per cent and 1.70 per cent, respectively.
Also in the same period, a total of 3,55,231 tests were conducted across the country, increasing the overall tally to over 89.02 crore.
As of Wednesday morning, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 215.67 crore.
Over 4.06 crore adolescents have been administered with a first dose of Covid-19 jab since the beginning of vaccination drive for this age bracket.

Mumbai: The strange business of Sindhudurg Kankoli Police was to convert a five-year-old murder into an accidental death and make the deceased an accused in the charge sheet, but the Mumbai Crime Branch has revived the mystery by declaring this accidental death as murder and has also claimed to have arrested four accused.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested four accused, claiming to have solved the mystery of a five-year-old murder case, which the accused had succeeded in declaring as an accidental death and the police had also declared it an accident and had made the deceased an accused in the road accident. The Mumbai Crime Branch had received information that the accused who committed the murder in Sindhudurg was residing in Mumbai, after which the Crime Branch has solved the murder case after five years. The accused had killed Ashfaq Malani in Sindhudurg in 2021, after which his accomplices threw the body into the ghat and proved the murder to be an accidental death. But later, a secret information was received that some people from Mumbai had committed the murder in Sindhudurg, on this basis, the Crime Branch took action and arrested the accused. The accused were in a dispute over money. Ashfaq was taken to Omkar Deluxe Hotel in Sindhudurg by his associates and killed. After that, the body was put in an ambulance and hidden. To prove the accident, the motorcycle was also thrown into the ghat. Along with it, the mobile phone was also recovered from there. The police found the body after 22 days and the police registered an ADR. The police had also filed a charge sheet in it, but the murder was revealed after five years. The accused have also confessed to the crime during the investigation. The accused had opened a loan office and after that, they used to collect fees from people by luring them to provide loans. In this case, the police have arrested four accused, while two accused are still said to be absconding. DCP Crime Branch Detection Nonath Dhule said that the murder was committed due to a dispute over money of Rs 1.5 to 2 lakhs. All these accused used to provide loans in the name of loan apps. During the investigation of the Crime Branch, the accused have confessed to the murder. The four accused have been identified as Manoj Narayan, Surendra Chavan, Atish Bhagwan More and Shetty. All four have been arrested and handed over to the Kankoli police, while two accused Amit Raut, Manoj Bhandari are still absconding. The DCP said that to prove this case as an accident, the accused had left all the documents including the victim’s motorcycle at the scene so that there would be no doubt that this was not an accident but a murder.

Mumbai : Major operation by Food and Drug Administration in Mulund, unlabeled food items seized, stock seized, businesses closed

Mumbai: The Mumbai Food and Drug Department has claimed to have seized unsanitary food items in a crackdown on unhygienic food items on the orders of FDA Commissioner Takaram Munde and under the guidance of Joint Commissioner (Food) Mahesh Chaudhary and Assistant Commissioner Chhatarpal Singh Devi. A special team of Safety Officer Rishikesh Rajesh Darshanwad and Meghna Pawar has launched a drive to take action against illegal and non-compliant food traders in Mumbai. Under this drive, the team conducted a physical inspection of the plantation of “Gupta Chana Bhinder” (Gala No. TG 137, 1/1 Dumping Road, Gautam Nagar, Milind West, Milind Central, Greater Mumbai) in Mulund. During the inspection, extremely poor and unsanitary conditions were found in the factory and the godown. In addition, there was no legal label on the packets of various food items manufactured and kept for sale in the factory, such as the manufacturer, date of manufacture or expiry date (without label). Taking immediate notice of these serious matters that are playing with the health of the public, the food safety officers have legally seized a total of 114.2 kg of food items from the factory, with an estimated value of Rs. 20 crore. The seized items included pani puri, sukhi puri, green peas and other items. Seizure of food items and testing of samples: All the above unlabeled and suspiciously colored stocks have been legally seized and the samples of the food items have been sent for further laboratory analysis. Further action will be taken under the law after receiving the analysis report. Notice to Close Business In view of the possibility of pest infestation in the farm and the fear of large-scale violation of laws, an order has been issued to immediately close the business of the said farm until the deficiencies identified by the administration are completely eliminated and the premises are completely disinfected and cleaned. Therefore, the FDA has taken action against the foodstuff.
