India logs 188 fresh Covid cases in last 24 hrs

India reported a total 188 fresh Covid cases on Wednesday in the last 24 hrs, against 157 cases reported the previous day, said Union Health Ministry.

However, no Covid related death has been reported in the same period in the country. The active caseload of the country stands at 3,468 cases, accounting for 0.01 per cent of the country’s total positive cases.

The weekly positive rate of the country currently stands at 0.18 per cent, while the daily positive rate stands at 0.14 per cent.

The recovery of 141 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,41,43,483. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.80 per cent.

Also in the same period, a total of 1,34,995 tests were conducted across the country, increasing the overall tally to over 91.01 crore.

With 90,529 vaccines administered in last 24 hrs, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 220.07 crore as of Wednesday morning.

The issue of Marathi signboards in Mumbai is likely to heat up once again. Mumbai Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Sanjay Gadi has given clear instructions to shops, hotels and other institutions to make nameplates in Marathi within a month. This includes shops of various brands from five-star hotels to famous personalities. He also warned of Shiv Sena-style action against those who do not take these instructions seriously. Deputy Mayor Sanjay Gadi held a meeting with the officials of the Municipal Corporation’s Shops and Establishment Department in this regard on Wednesday. “As per the Supreme Court’s directions, it is mandatory to put up nameplates in Marathi in Devanagari script. Whether it is a five-star hotel or any other establishment, it is mandatory to put up Marathi nameplates on it. It should be checked whether the rules are being followed or not,” the vehicle told reporters. Sanjay Gadi has warned that strict action will be taken against those officials who delay in implementing the rules.” BMC Legal Committee Chairman Daksha Karkar has also reacted to this. Instructions have been given to the administration, to send notices to those who have not received them, and to instruct them to implement the rules within a month. Municipal officials have been instructed to collect information about those institutions that are not following the rules. Report within 15 days what action has been taken in such places. Further action will be taken after the completion of a month. Daksha Karkar has said that strict action will be taken against the violators. He said that no institution has put up a prominent Marathi board, our workers will take notice in the style of Shiv Sena.

The court dismissed the petition
The Maharashtra government, in one of its orders in 2022, had made it mandatory for all shops and institutions in the state to put up nameplates in Marathi language in Devanagari script. Federation of Retail Traders (FRT) had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against this order in February 2022. The court dismissed the petition. A bench of Justice Gautam S. Patel and Justice Madhav J. Jamda had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the petitioner organization.

The Mumbai Crime Branch has claimed to have solved the case of the shooting of Sameer Khan, son of D and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel’s close aide Asif Dari, in the Mumbai Dockyard Road area. In this case, the Crime Branch has succeeded in recovering weapons, mobile phones and a motorcycle. Due to a money transaction and dispute, the accused targeted Asif Dari’s son Sameer Khan and attacked him. After that, the police reached the spot and conducted other investigations including forensic examination and started a parallel investigation in this case of the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Crime Branch found the trace of the accused attackers on technical grounds, after which the Crime Branch Unit 3 arrested both the shooters near Mahim Dargah on the outskirts of Mumbai in the middle of the night. On the instructions of Mumbai Police Commissioner Devin Bharti, Joint Police Commissioner Lakshmi Gautam and DCP Raj Tilak Roshan carried out this operation. The accused have confessed to the crime in the initial investigation and said that they were involved in a money dispute. After the shooting incident, a case was registered in the Byculla police under the Arms Act and a case of murder was registered in this case. The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case from an angle. The two accused who have been arrested have been identified as Sadiq Sheikh Liaquat Sheikh, 30, and Zeeshan Anwar Sheikh, 30. Asif Dari has underworld connections, so the Crime Branch is also investigating this angle. It is said that Sameer Khan is also the owner of a construction company and has also obtained the contract for its construction. The Mumbai Crime Branch is also investigating this case. After this shooting, there was a sensation and tension in Mumbai, but the Mumbai Crime Branch solved the case within a few hours and the accused are in police custody. The Crime Branch is also investigating whether more people are involved in this or not and who had ordered the attack on Sameer. In the initial investigation, both the accused were found to be involved in this case.
