IND vs AUS, CWC World Cup Final: ‘Some People Say India Could Have Won If The Match Was In Wankhede,’ Sanjay Raut In Veiled Dig At PM Modi
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut took a veiled dig at PM Modi after the heartbreaking loss of Team India in the 2023 World Cup Final on Sunday (November 19). While speaking to the media on Monday, Raut’s remarks implied that if the match had taken place in Mumbai’s Wankhede instead of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India would’ve won the World Cup trophy. However, Raut played safe and attributed these words to ‘some people.’
“Our team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma played really well and won 10 games. However, we lost the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Some people say that we would have won if the match had happened at Wankhede Stadium. I can’t comment about it, though,” said Sanjay Raut.
Raut Alleged Politics In Cricket
Raut earlier on Sunday claimed that cricket had been moved from Mumbai, which was the nation’s traditional powerhouse in the game, to Ahmedabad in Gujarat as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party wanted to hold a ‘political event’.
“The World Cup (final) is happening in Ahmedabad. Earlier, Mumbai was the Mecca of cricket. All such events were organised in Delhi, Mumbai or at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Entire cricket was moved from Mumbai to Ahmedabad because they (BJP) want to a do political event,” Raut claimed. In its pursuit of political gains, the BJP will not spare even cricket, Raut alleged.
Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of 1.32 lakh, hosted the final of the World Cup between India and Australia yesterday.
About India’s Heartbreaking Loss
Chasing a below-par score of 241 for victory, Australia rode on 137 from opener Travis Head and an unbeaten 58 from Marnus Labuschagne to reach the target in 43 overs to silence the 1.3 lakh spectators present in the venue, just like Pat Cummins had said before the final.
Head got great support from Labuschagne at the other end as the duo stitched a192-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take Australia to victory in their 8th World Cup final.

Bhiwandi: Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh From Bhiwandi East Seeks MCOCA-Like Law To Stop Defamation Of Legends
The Samajwadi Party MLA, Rais Shaikh, has moved a private member bill, seeking penal provisions on the lines of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to stop defamation of eminent personalities.
A bill moved by an individual elected representative is called a private member bill. The opposition uses it as a legal weapon to introduce reforms or press for certain demands.
Shaikh, who represents the Bhiwandi East seat, has named the proposal as the Maharashtra Defamation of Revered Leaders and Iconic Figures (Prevention and Punishment) Bill, 2024. It aims to control the increasing incidents of defamation and objectionable comments against religious leaders, historical figures and national icons. The bill will be vetted before allowing the legislator to introduce it in the house.
Outlining the objective behind the proposal, Shaikh said in the bill’s draft that the idea is to curb the rising trend of whipping up sentiments by posting derogatory content against eminent personalities on social media. Such incidents have often led to public unrest, social tensions and violent protests in some cases, Shaikh added.
He pointed out that the existing sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita are inadequate for punishing such offences hence a MCOCA-like law will help deter such miscreants.

The message also claimed that certain individuals were planning bomb blasts in Mumbai and Dhanbad and conspiring to undermine the Indian Army. Additionally, it alleged that one of the suspects was working for the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI.
The message mentioned suspects involved in manufacturing illegal weapons in a company and attempting to harm the PM and the army. CM Devendra Fadnavis-Led Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion Likely To Be Delayed
Mumbai: The expansion of the Mahayuti cabinet, which was expected to take place on December 10 or 11, is unlikely. The exercise may take place on December 14 or 15, say sources from Mahayuti.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his deputies Ekanth Shinde and Ajit Pawar have not yet met to sort out the allocations. The meeting is also unlikely on December 12 as Fadnavis has a busy schedule in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, the issue of seeking report cards from the minister aspirants has become a talking point in the political circle. Reports say that the names of heavyweights like Sanjay Rathod and Abdul Sattar were nixed.
