‘Honouring Those Who Betrayed Us’: Sanjay Raut Slams Sharad Pawar For Presenting Award To Eknath Shinde In Delhi

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, was honoured with the Mahadji Shinde Rashtra Gaurav Award on Tuesday. The award was presented in Delhi by former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. However, this event has sparked political controversy in Maharashtra. Sanjay Raut, spokesperson for Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction, has strongly criticised Pawar for honouring the person responsible for splitting their party.

Sanjay Raut Expresses Dissatisfaction On Sharad Pawar’s Actions

Speaking to the media, Raut expressed his disappointment, stating, “Maharashtra’s politics is taking a strange turn. We need to reassess who is deceiving whom and who is being deceived. Eknath Shinde, who toppled Maharashtra’s government and betrayed us, should not have been honoured by Sharad Pawar. That is our sentiment.”

He further added, “How will we face the people of Maharashtra now? While it’s true that there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, those who have harmed Maharashtra and whom we consider its enemies should not be honored in this manner. It is a blow to Maharashtra’s pride and self-respect. This might be Pawar’s perspective, but the people of Maharashtra do not agree. We respect Sharad Pawar, but this decision has deeply hurt us.”

Raut stated that the honour given to Shinde was painful for Shiv Sena (UBT). “Those who split Shiv Sena are being felicitated, and this is causing us great anguish. Politics in Delhi might be different, but this has hurt us. Some things should be avoided in politics. Even if there are ongoing discussions between you and Ajit Pawar, we tread carefully before taking any step forward,” he said.

Literary Festivals Are Marketplace For Political Deals: Raut

He also criticised the political environment in Delhi, claiming that what was happening there was not a literary gathering but political bargaining. “This is not a literary festival; it’s a marketplace for political deals. Awards and honours are being handed out arbitrarily. What connection do these people have with literature? I question the organizers, did you go to Delhi for literary service or for political brokerage? What service have you done for Marathi literature? Instead of honouring those who uphold Maharashtra’s dignity, you are felicitating those who trample upon it. This is not a literary event but a political deal in Delhi,” Raut remarked.

Despite his criticism, Raut revealed that he had received an invitation to the event and planned to attend. “I have been invited, and I will go. Any true Marathi individual will not stay away,” he concluded.

Maha govt invites developers to develop 3,360 acres of MSRTC land bank

Published

Mumbai, Feb 12: Maharashtra’s Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, has invited developers to participate in the development of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) land bank, spanning 3,360 acres.

Speaking at the NAREDCO NextGen Conclave 2025 in Mumbai on Wednesday, Sarnaik emphasised that the redevelopment of bus depots across districts, talukas, and rural areas would be undertaken on a fast-track basis.

He announced that the state government is set to float 150 to 160 tenders for the project soon.

To facilitate this transformation, renowned architect Hafeez Contractor has been appointed to prepare a development plan for MSRTC bus depots. Sarnaik highlighted the strategic importance of these land parcels and urged developers to explore commercial and residential opportunities beyond urban centers.

In a key policy move, the Minister revealed that MSRTC will be designated as a Planning Authority, streamlining project approvals under a single-window system. He added that the corporation’s technical team will be strengthened to efficiently manage the approvals and execution process.

Encouraging developers to venture beyond metro cities, Sarnaik pointed out the potential in semi-urban and rural areas, stressing that real estate growth in these regions would contribute significantly to the state’s overall development.

Sarnaik also noted that land parcels in Lonavala-Khandala and Mahabaleshwar — which are currently restricted under forest and no-development zones — would soon be included under the new Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR). This change would allow for a higher Floor Space Index (FSI), unlocking new development opportunities.

Additionally, the government is working to extend land lease periods from 60 years to 99 years, making projects more financially viable for developers.

At the conclave, Sarnaik also launched the NAREDCO NextGen ‘Digital Learning Hub’, an online learning platform designed for young real estate professionals. The hub will offer insights into emerging trends, advanced technologies, and policy updates through collaborations with leading institutions, providing certification programs to nurture the next generation of real estate leaders.

Heavy Vehicles Banned At Mumbai’s Dahisar Toll Naka During Morning Peak Hours

Published

on

Mumbai: Heavy vehicles have been banned from entering Mumbai via the Dahisar toll plaza during morning peak hours in an attempt to alleviate severe traffic congestion. The Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) traffic police imposed this restriction on Tuesday, prohibiting trucks, trailers, multi-axle vehicles and inter-state and inter-district private buses from entering between 8:00 am and 11:30 am. The ban applies to vehicles coming from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway and Thane.

Similar Step Taken By Mumbai Traffic Police In 2022

This move follows a similar restriction enforced by the Mumbai traffic police in June 2022, which barred heavy vehicles from operating in the city during peak hours. However, enforcing this within Mumbai proved challenging. To improve effectiveness, the Mumbai traffic police requested MBVV authorities to stop southbound heavy vehicles at Dahisar itself, rather than attempting to regulate them after they had already entered the city.

Transport Minister Looks Into Traffic Issue At Dahisar Toll Naka

Just last week, State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik directed officials to introduce separate lanes for heavy vehicles and four-wheelers at the Dahisar toll plaza to ease congestion. His directive came after his own convoy experienced a 10-15 minute delay due to long queues at the toll naka.

MBVV traffic officials acknowledged that traffic bottlenecks at Dahisar toll plaza were a major issue, with long queues forming on the Western Express Highway. Though the toll is primarily for heavy vehicles, four-wheelers were also affected as both shared the same lanes.

“This was causing inconvenience to smaller vehicles, emergency services, ambulances, and VIP convoys, leading to potential law and order concerns,” Suhas Bavche, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, MBVV told media. He confirmed that a formal notification was issued under Section 33 (1) (b) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, and the Motor Vehicles Act.

To better manage traffic flow on the national highway and service roads in Mira-Bhayandar, as well as other crucial city roads, it was deemed necessary to restrict heavy and large vehicles from entering Mumbai from Versova (Versave Police Chowki/Hotel Fountain) during peak hours, Bavche added.

Which Vehicles Have Been Exempted?

However, exemptions have been made for essential service vehicles, including police, revenue department, fire brigade tenders, drinking water tankers, school buses, vegetable transport vehicles, ambulances and vehicles authorised by the police, district magistrates of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, municipal commissioners of Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar and the National Highways Authority of India.
