ED hovers close to Maha CM Thackeray, attaches brother-in-law’s properties
In a major development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Tuesday that it has attached immovable properties worth around Rs 6.45 core belonging to Pushpak Group’s entity, Pushpak Bullion, in Thane.
These include 11 flats in the Neelambari project in Thane, belonging to Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Pvt Ltd, which is owned and controlled by Shridhar Madhav Patankar.
Patankar is the brother-in-law of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray (brother of Thackeray’s wife Rashmi Thackeray).
The action follows a money-laundering case registered in March 2017 against Pushpak Bullion and other group companies under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED said.
Till date, the central probe agency has attached other properties worth Rs 21.46 crore owned by Mahesh Patel, Chandrakant Patel, their family members and companies controlled by them, in connection with the case.
Subsequent probes revealed that Mahesh Patel had siphoned off and layered funds of Pushpak Group’s concern, Pushpak Realty, in connivance with Nandkishore Chaturvedi, who provided the ‘accommodation entry’.
Under the garb of a sale, Pushpak Realty transferred funds to the tune of Rs 20.02 crore back to Chaturvedi after layering it through various connected/unconnected entities, said the ED.
The ED said Chaturvedi, who operates several shell companies, further transferred these monies through his bogus company, Humsafar Dealer Pvt Ltd, under the cover of extending ‘unsecured loans’ of more than Rs 30 crore to Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Pvt Ltd.
Accordingly, the agency said that the money siphoned off by Mahesh Patel in connivance with Chaturvedi was finally parked in the realty projects of the housing company owned/controlled by Patankar, the CM’s brother-in-law.
The development came soon after Shiv Sena MP and its chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut accused the BJP of letting loose various central probe agencies against the state leaders in a bid to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi government comprising Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress.
Reacting to the latest ED action, BJP activist and ex-MP Kirit Somaiya said that Thackeray’s brother-in-law (brother of Rashmi Thackeray) is involved in “money laundering scam” with “use of shell companies” and “scamsters will not be spared”.
However, there have been no reactions yet from the Thackeray family or the MVA partners to the ED move.
Mumbai: Crime Branch has claimed to have arrested an accused wanted in murder and MCOCA at Chunabhatti Police Station in Mumbai. He was hiding in Navi Mumbai, adjoining Mumbai, hiding his identity. The Mumbai Crime Branch received information about this. The Crime Branch conducted a raid in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai and arrested the absconding accused, Swastik Sawant, 32. A case was registered against him at Chunabhatti Police Station in 2023 and he was hiding in Sindhudurg, Goa, Chennai, Rajasthan, and Delhi areas. Crime Branch Unit 6 started searching for the accused in this regard and then information was received that he was hiding in Navi Mumbai, after which he was arrested. This operation was carried out by DCP Nunath Dhola of Mumbai Crime Branch.
Mumbai: Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested a drug smuggler claiming to have seized MD Mephedone worth over Rs 35 lakh. A suspect was found in a suspicious condition in Mumbai’s Bandra area. When he was searched, the police found 142 grams of MD from his possession, which is said to be worth Rs 35 lakh. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act in Kherwadi police. This action was taken by the ANC Worli unit.

CJP protests in the country: After Maharashtra Cyber revealed the conspiracy to create unrest in the country, Nitesh Rane threatened that those who invaded India will be crushed to dust.
Mumbai: Commenting on the revelation of the Pakistani conspiracy to create unrest in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest, Maharashtra Cyber Department has threatened that if anyone conspires to invade India in the country, he will be crushed. He said that in the action of the Cyber Department, it became clear that people were running their operation with a gun on the shoulders of students. Nitesh Rane said that the central government has framed strict laws in the matter of net paper leak, but anyone who tries to create unrest or unrest in Hindu Rashtra will not be spared. Nitesh Rane also criticized Uddhav Thackeray and said that the comedian who insulted Sita Mata was also a participant in the Shivaji Park protest, so why did Uddhav Thackeray remain silent on this? Nitesh Rane made a sensational allegation and said that during the students’ protest, why were the slogans of “Takbir Allahu Akbar” and “Sar-e-Tana” raised? He said that there is no connection between the student protests and the invasion of India. If anyone does this, all of them will be pulverized. He said that we had already expressed concern about the way Maharashtra Cyber has foiled the conspiracy to create unrest in the country.
