Delhi LT Anil Baijal resigns, cites ‘personal reasons’
Delhi’s Lt Governor Anil Baijal resigned on Wednesday, citing personal reasons.
According to the sources, Baijal sent his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind.
A 1969 batch IAS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, he served as 21st Lt Governor of Delhi for a period of five years and four months from December 31, 2016 to May 18, 2022.
As the Lt Governor, he had been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over several issues.
Baijal had also served as Union Home Secretary during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The speed of removing sludge from drains should be accelerated and the work should be completed within the stipulated time, the Additional Municipal Commissioner has directed.

Mumbai: As part of the pre-monsoon works, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified the work of desilting major and minor drains in the Western Suburbs. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Vipin Sharma personally inspected the works today (May 5, 2026). Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Vipin Sharma has directed the officers of the Municipal Corporation to expedite the pace of silt removal works and complete the work within the stipulated time. Dr. Vipin Sharma, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) inspected the silt removal works in major and minor drains in Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar areas of Western Suburbs today (May 5, 2026) morning as well as the sewage treatment plant on Jaywant Salvi Marg. During this inspection visit, Dr. Sharma inspected the silt removal works at Payal Hotel Junction in Dahisar on the Western Express Highway, Dahisar river near River View Bridge, Sewage Treatment Plant on Jaywant Salvi Marg, Mahatray Nallah in R Central Division, Powaisar River in R South Division, Lalji Pada etc. As part of the monsoon works, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has started desilting drains from the drains. The silt is being removed. Although there is still time for the monsoon to start, the Municipal Corporation has intensified the work of removing garbage from the drains with preparations. It should be ensured that the drain cleaning work is completed by May 31, 2026 in any case. Apart from this, the removed silt should be disposed of within the stipulated time. Dr. Sharma said that it should be ensured that the silt does not return to the road or river. On this occasion, Leader of the House Ganesh Khankar, R Central and R North Ward Committee President Prakash Direkar, R South Ward Committee President Leena Direkar, Corporators Geeta Patil, Corporator Anita Yadav, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 7) Mr. Manish Valenju, Assistant Commissioner Prakash Turbi, Assistant Commissioner Rohit and other officers were present.

No appointment of head of State Women’s Commission, DGPI denies news rumours about Meera Borwankar

Mumbai: The news viral on social media about the appointment of former Mumbai IPS officer and underworld figure Meera Borwankar as the head of the State Women’s Commission is misleading. She has not been appointed to this post. This news is false. This has been clarified by the DGPIR department. This news has been declared completely baseless. According to the DGPIR, whatever news has been viral on social media is baseless. Till now the state government has not issued any notification regarding Meera Borwankar. Meera Borwankar has not been appointed to any post in the state government. Earlier, Chakankar was the head of the Women’s Commission. After the resignation of Rupali Chakankar, now the news about Meera Borwankar is false and misleading. So far, no one has been appointed as the head of the State Women’s Commission. This has also been clarified.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police decides to check birth certificates on fake documents in the city after the alleged Bangladeshi campaign of Kirit Somaiya

Mumbai: After BJP leader Kirit Somaiya allegations of fake and forged birth certificates being issued to alleged Bangladeshis in Mumbai city, Mumbai Police has now handed over the investigation of fake birth certificates to a Mumbai Crime Branch team and SIT. Mumbai Crime will investigate the birth certificate case. The investigation into crimes related to the purchase of false registration certificates of birth on the basis of fake documents has been handed over to Crime Branch Mumbai. During the investigation and from other complaints received, it has come to light that a large number of birth registration certificates have been obtained through similar fraudulent means. Keeping in view the vast scope and seriousness of the matter, the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for a thorough and effective investigation into these crimes and the complaints received. The said Special Investigation Team is headed by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and includes the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mumbai, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Mumbai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Crime Branch, Mumbai and other officers. In Mumbai, now the investigation of birth certificates through fake documents will be carried out by the SIT of Mumbai Crime Branch. This SIT has also included expert officers and others.
