‘Dawood Ibrahim is in Karachi’, ED quotes don’s nephew in charge sheet

In a latest development in connection with the money laundering case lodged against Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, the Enforcement Directorate has claimed in its charge sheet that the underworld don’s nephew Alishah Parkar has said the don was ‘living in Karachi.

Alishah, who is the son of Haseena Parkar, has also said that he wasn’t in touch with Dawood.

The ED recently filed the charge sheet in a Mumbai court. This is the same case in which NCP leader Nawab Malik is also facing prosecution.

The ED charge sheet claims that Dawood’s wife Mehajabin used to contact the Parkar family during festivals like Eid.

Alishah was grilled by the ED earlier in February. His statement has been furnished along with the charge sheet as a part of proof.

Salim Qureshi, an aide of Chhota Shakeel, was also interrogated by the team of the centre probe agency.

The ED has claimed that Qureshi went to Pakistan several times on the basis of a forged passport. He also allegedly works at the behest of Dawood and Shakeel.

The ED initiated money laundering investigation against Dawood Ibrahim and others, on the basis of an FIR registered by the NIA on February 3, 2022, under section 120B of IPC read with section 17, 18, 20,21,38 and 40 of UAPA.

In the aforementioned FIR, Dawood Ibrahim, Haji Anees alias Anees Ibrahim Shaikh, Shakeel Shaikh alias Chhota Shakeel, Javed Patel alias Javed Chikna, Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razzaq Memon alias Tiger Memon were named as accused.

The FIR also stated that Dawood Ibrahim, after leaving India, started controlling his criminal activities in India through his close associates such as Haseena Parkar alias Haseena Aapa and others.

What was the whole matter?

A report in The New York Times alleged links between Neville Roy Singham, who financed the news website NewsClick, and the Chinese Communist Party. The report claimed that Neville Roy Singham’s network promoted disinformation and was pro-China. Influenced the mainstream narrative by promoting messages.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur had given information in a press conference regarding the raid on @newsclickin. He said that Singham financed NewsClick and he is being funded by China. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had started investigating New Delhi-based NewsClick in the year 2021 regarding foreign funding. According to the Indian Express report, the ED had raided the offices of Newsclick and the residences of its directors in connection with “allegedly received foreign funds totaling Rs 30.51 crore”.

Customs Arrest Kenyan Woman With Gold Worth Rs.1.6 Cr From Mumbai Airport

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs has arrested a Kenyan woman from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport and seized gold worth ₹1.63 crore from her. She had come from Nairobi on a passport issued by the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Acting on a tip-off, the AIU intercepted Sahra Mohammed Omar, 40, at CSMI airport on Saturday. The officials recovered gold weighing 3,404 gm hidden in her inner wear and from her body. According to the officer, it appears that Omar has been involved in smuggling activities. The investigating agency said that the probe is still at initial stage hence the nexus is yet to be revealed. Omar has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
