Follow Rules, Win Big! Central Railway To Introduce ‘Lucky Yatra’ Scheme To Encourage Valid Ticket Purchase

Mumbai: In a bid to tackle the issue of ticketless travel and encourage commuters to buy valid tickets, Central Railway has decided to introduce an exciting new initiative called “The Lucky Yatra” scheme. Under this program, one lucky commuter will win Rs 10,000 daily, while a bumper prize of Rs 50,000 will be awarded once a week.

According to CR, the scheme started on March 20th and will run for eight weeks, aiming to promote lawful travel among Mumbai’s suburban railway passengers. The initiative is sponsored by FCB Interface Communication Pvt. Ltd., ensuring that passengers do not have to pay any extra fees to participate, said an official of CR. “Currently, the scheme is running as a pilot project only for passengers traveling from CSMT to Karjat/Kasara stations, i.e., only on the main line,” said an official.

How does It Work?

Division selects a UTS number and coveys to Advertising agency daily. They put it on website and passenger has to claim it by registering on website and collect it by coming to CSMT and showing their ticket. If found valid, prize will be given on the spot.

“The scheme is not just about encouraging ticket purchases but also about appreciating honest commuters,” said a railway official. “We want to reward those who follow the rules and ensure a disciplined travel culture in Mumbai’s local trains.”

Who Can Participate?

The scheme is open to all passengers traveling on central railways main line between CSMT- Kasara/ Karjat, including those using single journey tickets, daily tickets, and monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual passes.

With Mumbai’s local trains carrying over 7.5 million passengers daily—nearly 4 million of whom use the suburban train services operated by CR across all four routes, including the Main Line, Harbour Line, Trans-Harbour Line, and the Fourth Corridor (Uran Line)—ticketless travel remains a significant issue. Central Railway officials estimate that around 20% of passengers travel without a valid ticket.

Encouraging Valid Travel

To make ticket purchasing easier, passengers have multiple options, including ticket counters, ATVM machines, mobile tickets, online tickets, and smart cards. The railway authorities urge commuters to buy tickets and participate for a chance to win cash rewards while traveling in dignity on a valid ticket.

Mumbai: Before Eid-ul-Azha, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has shown mischief and now has objected to the open sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha. Kirit Somaiya has said that Muslims are forced to sacrifice in the open on Eid-ul-Azha. Its purpose is to create fear and terror among non-Muslims, Hindus and Jain community. Along with this, he has alleged that land mafias perform such sacrifices to create an atmosphere of fear and panic in the area. In this regard, Kirit Somaiya has announced to visit police stations and BMC wards from Monday against open sacrifice and to put pressure on the police and administration to stop this practice.

Kirit Somaiya, while giving an inflammatory speech, said that just as Mumbai has been made loudspeaker free, loudspeakers have been removed from 80% of mosques, but loudspeakers are still installed in 20 slums and mosques including Antap Hill, Truck Terminal and Wadala. These loudspeakers will be completely removed within a month. Similarly, Kirit Somaiya has also demanded action against illegal mosques and madrasas in housing societies. Kirit Somaiya said that now bullying will not work. If anyone sacrifices in the open, action will be taken against him. That is why this campaign has been started from Monday. In 100 settlements, sacrifices are being made in the open without any permission, which is completely illegal. Its purpose is to create an atmosphere of fear in the area so that no one can raise their voice against these goons.

Abu Asim Azmi of Samajwadi Party met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the issue of loudspeakers and sacrifice and discussed with communal elements. He had demanded action and alleged that only Muslim mosques are being targeted in the name of noise pollution, which is completely wrong. The police have sent notices to mosques and forbidden them from doing so so that a peaceful atmosphere is maintained. On this, Kirit Somaiya said that this action is being taken on the orders of the High Court. Abu Asim Azmi and Uddhav Thackeray should go to the High Court or make a law.

Mumbai: Muslim organizations have now started legal proceedings against Mumbai BJP leaders and former MP Kirit Somaiya. In an important meeting of Muslim elders and scholars in the Mumbai Peace Committee, it was decided that a case should be registered against Kirit Somaiya for disturbing communal harmony in Mumbai city, creating enmity between two communities, and spreading religious hatred. Applications should be filed in various police stations of the city to register a case against Kirit Somaiya. Despite all these legal proceedings, if the police is unable to register a case against Kirit Somaiya, then they should approach the court against it. Muslim organizations have also decided to knock on the door of the court if the case is not registered.

Mumbai Peace Committee President Fareed Sheikh said that the atmosphere of the city has deteriorated due to the provocations of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and the loudspeaker removal campaign against mosques. There is also a risk of communal violence and religious hatred. This has also created a rift between Hindus and Muslims. Therefore, a request has been made to the Mumbai Police to register a case against Kirit Somaiya. At the same time, we have also demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis take action against the mischievous leaders because this is deteriorating the atmosphere of Maharashtra. Maulana Ijaz Ahmed Kashmiri, the preacher and imam of Handiwala Mosque, said that the provocation of Kirit Somaiya regarding the removal of loudspeakers from mosques in Mumbai has led to communal tension and in such a situation, a law and order problem has arisen in Maharashtra and Mumbai.

He said that this meeting was held regarding the issue of loudspeakers in mosques as well as the legal action against Kirit Somaiya’s provocation, in which it was decided that NGOs and organizations will approach the police stations to register a case against Kirit Somaiya. If a case is not registered despite all these requests, then the court should be approached soon. He said that it is very important to stop leaders like Kirit Somaiya to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in Mumbai. Kirit Somaiya has started a campaign to make Mumbai free of loudspeakers, due to which he visits police stations within the limits of mosques and tries to put pressure on police officers, due to which there is law and order here. The problem of discipline arises. In all these situations, there is a risk of tension in Mumbai.
