Betting in IPL tournaments on with help of Mumbai Police: Maha LoP Danve

Mumbai, March 25: Leader of the Opposition (LoP), in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve on Tuesday made a serious allegation that large scale betting was going on with the help of senior Mumbai Police officers during the ongoing IPL series.
During his speech on last week’s motion moved by the Opposition, LoP Ambadas Danve presented a pen drive to Council Chairman Ram Shinde.
“Those involved in betting include Mehul Jain, Kamlesh Jain and Hiren Jain. In addition, Pakistani players are being used by them for betting. After betting through an App called Lotus 24 in the recently-concluded Champions Trophy, all these people have now come to Mumbai for the IPL,” alleged Danve.
Danve criticised the Maharashtra government citing scams in the state’s transport undertaking, CIDCO, revenue, and health departments and also stated that there were corruption allegations against ministers and scams by officials.
He expressed his displeasure at the government’s working, saying that Maharashtra’s economic situation was heading towards an abyss.
Danve claimed that the state had not published the crime report of the last two years.
“About 564 various crimes have been registered in the state and riots have taken place. The graph of rape incidents has increased in Nagpur, Pune, Sambhajinagar. Nearly 22 rapes and 45 molestation incidents are happening every day. All these incidents are happening due to lack of fear of law,” Danve said.
Danve stated that prisons were overcrowded and added that there were 43,000 prisoners in various jails against the total capacity of 27,114 inmates.
He further claimed that there had been cases of fraud worth Rs 51,000 crore in the state. The rate of crime and cybercrime is increasing in the state and the cyber cell needs to be effective to prevent it, Danve said and cited various cases to argue that the law and order situation had deteriorated in Maharashtra.
“A man broke into the house of actor Saif Ali Khan and tried to rob and kill him. The accused in the murder of Beed Massajog Sarpanch is still absconding.
“The human rights commission’s report made it clear that Somnath Suryavanshi in Parbhani died due to beating by the police, but the government cannot take action against the people who beat Suryavanshi,” he claimed.
Danve also questioned what would be the plight of ordinary girls if Union Minister Raksha Khadse’s daughter was molested by some miscreants in Jalgaon.

Mumbai Metro 2B: Yellow Line Connecting Andheri To Mankhurd Nears Completion; Check Progress Of Mega Project That Costs Nearly ₹11,000 Cr

Mumbai: Mumbai’s metro network is preparing for a major leap with the nearing completion of Metro Line 2B, also known as the Yellow Line. Stretching over 23.64 km from D. N. Nagar in Andheri to Mandale in Mankhurd, the fully elevated corridor will feature 20 stations, improving east-west connectivity across some of the city’s busiest residential and commercial hubs, including Bandra, Kurla, Chembur and Mankhurd.
With an estimated project cost of Rs 10,986 crore, the new corridor is expected to dramatically reduce commute times and decongest major roads, benefiting lakhs of daily commuters. The project, once fully operational, will enable faster, safer and more comfortable public transport while linking critical zones across Mumbai.
Details On Mega Project’s Progress
As of mid-2025, civil work on Metro Line 2B is progressing steadily, with 78 per cent to 83 per cent of the overall construction completed. key milestones include 98 per cent completion of pile caps, 92 per cent of pier work and nearly 87 per cent of girder installation. The Mandale depot, spread over 31 hectares, is 98 per cent complete and will serve as the main hub for stabling and maintaining trains.
Phase 1 of the corridor, spanning 5.4 km from Mandale to Diamond Garden and covering five stations, has already seen trial runs begin in April 2025. Authorities are aiming to open this stretch to the public by the end of the year, while full commissioning of the entire corridor is planned in stages between 2026 and 2027.
Metro Line 2B will run modern six-coach trains manufactured by BEML. These trains come equipped with regenerative braking, onboard CCTV cameras and mobile charging points. Out of 96 trains sanctioned for the Mumbai Metro network through funding from ADB and NDB, 60 have been delivered, with many designated for Line 2B.
Project To Ease East-West Connectivity
Designed for a daily ridership of over 10 lakh passengers by 2031, the corridor is expected to cut travel times by 50–75 per cent, depending on traffic conditions. Interchange stations at key junctions will provide smooth connectivity with other metro lines, suburban railways, the monorail and even the proposed Airport Rail Link.
Besides easing congestion, the Yellow Line will promote public transport over private vehicles, potentially reducing pollution and improving road safety. The project is a major step toward integrated urban mobility, enhancing accessibility to commercial, industrial and residential areas across the city.
