Aurangzeb is BJP’s new Shivaji, says Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena in Saamana

Mumbai, March 19: Amid the clamour for the demolition of Aurangzeb’s grave, Shiv Sena(UBT) on Wednesday attacked the BJP, saying that it nowadays considers the Mughal emperor more important than Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s rule was based on religion and it was about taking everyone along. This idea was not acceptable to the BJP earlier and is not acceptable even now. Actually, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj were never symbols of the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or the BJP. Now they are saying ‘Jai Shivaji’, and ‘Jai Sambhaji’ as per convenience. Therefore, Aurangzeb is BJP’s new Shivaji,” said Shiv Sena (UBT) in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ editorial
“No one will glorify Aurangzeb in Maharashtra. Here only Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be hailed. Therefore, after the release of the film ‘Chhavaa’, organisations like RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and neo-Hindutva elements of BJP showed political fury against Aurangzeb’s grave and spoiled the atmosphere of Maharashtra. Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal threatened to protest demanding complete destruction of Aurangzeb’s grave. They announced the plan to start Kar Seva to remove the tomb. They are comparing Aurangzeb’s grave with Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid. These people are saying that like Babri, Aurangzeb’s grave will also be destroyed,” the editorial reads.
“For this, these people have started gathering spades, shovels, crowbars, JCBs, bulldozers. This is just a plain drama. There is no need to do this drama to remove Aurangzeb’s grave. Aurangzeb is under the grave and he will never get up and come out. The grave is currently being protected by the central security forces. Since this grave is under the Archaeological Survey of India, their father is sitting in the Delhi Centre. The Centre should immediately remove this security and withdraw the status of the protected monument given to the grave so that this land will be freed and the possibility of conflict will end. There will also be no need for Kar Seva here,” says Saamana
The editorial says, “At the time of Babri Masjid, there was a Congress government at the Centre. Kalyan Singh’s BJP government was in Uttar Pradesh. That is why there was conflict. Today, there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and CM Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra. Both are from the BJP. Also, Fadnavis has the experience of Kar Seva in Ayodhya. Therefore, PM Modi, CM Fadnavis, Mohan Bhagwat, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, these five people should dig Aurangzeb’s grave under government orders with spades in their hands. This will stop riots in Maharashtra and calm the minds of fanatics,” reads the editorial while taking a swipe at the BJP and RSS.”
“It has been seen time and again that Chief Minister Fadnavis only gives speeches but does not actually take any concrete action. Riots broke out in Nagpur over Aurangzeb’s grave. There were attacks on the police. Incidents of arson took place in Nagpur. Nagpur has a history of 300 years. There have never been riots in these 300 years. So why has this controversy erupted now? Fadnavis says that these rioters were outsiders. What were the police doing until the outside rioters came to the city and created a ruckus? Were the Home Ministry’s informers sleeping?”
Voicing concern over the crimes taking place in the state, the Shiv Sena(UBT) mouthpiece writes, “The series of extortion and murders in Beed has not ended. Riots also took place in Parbhani. Neo-Hindutvaists sparked riots at the festival of Holi in Konkan. State ministers give speeches that increase religious hatred and the Home Minister is sitting idle. This is not called governing a state.”
Further stepping up attacks against BIP, the editorial says, “Therefore, the villain Aurangzeb, who Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj fought against and buried in Maharashtra, has to be eliminated first along with his grave. If the villain is eliminated, the ‘hero’ Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will also be eliminated automatically, this is their trick.”
“In the Lok Sabha, BJP MP from Bargarh, Odisha, Pradeep Purohit publicly said, ‘Our Shivaji is Modi. Modi was Chhatrapati Shivaji in his previous life.’ So now the BJP has given birth to a new Shivaji and for this, they have a plan to eliminate the original Shivaji. Then if Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is to be eliminated, first Aurangzeb’s grave will have to be demolished. Meaning history will be destroyed automatically. This is exactly what is seen happening in Maharashtra,” claims the editorial.
“The glorification that is being done by declaring PM Modi as Chhatrapati Shivaji is terrible. Do Chhatrapati’s descendants Udayanraje Bhosale (Shrimant) and Shivendraraje Bhosale (Shrimant) approve of Modi’s glorification of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj?” Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj brought unity to Maharashtra. Today Maharashtra is divided and burning in the name of religion. If you find a copy of the Quran anywhere, return it with respect, this is what Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s order letter says. But in Nagpur, verses from the Quran were burned. In Rajapur, an attempt was made to incite riots by throwing Holi wood in the mosque. Arson in the name of Aurangzeb started in Maharashtra. Aurangzeb buried 400 years ago, has been brought back to life again. Because a new ‘Shivaji’ is growing in the ‘stomach’ of the BJP. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, please forgive us,” says the editorial.

Bombay HC waives cooling-off period in divorce proceedings between Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma

Mumbai, March 19: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed an application filed by cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his choreographer wife Dhanashree Verma seeking waiver of the cooling-off period in their ongoing mutual consent divorce proceedings.
A bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar directed the family court to decide the divorce petition on Thursday considering Chahal’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). The leg-spinner was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 18 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.
The bench took note of the fact that the parties had been living apart for over two and a half years and had duly complied with the consent terms regarding the payment of alimony arrived at during the mediation process.
Under Hindu law, if the husband and wife have been living separately for one year or more, they may apply to obtain a decree of divorce by mutual consent. However, under Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, a statutory cooling-off period of at least 6 months from the date of presentation of the divorce petition is provided, to explore possibilities of settlement and reunion between the couple.
The Supreme Court, in a landmark verdict in 2017, held that the 6-month cooling-off period is not mandatory, and the court may waive the condition if it is satisfied that there exists no possibility of parties resuming cohabitation.
Dhanashree and Chahal got engaged in 2020 and got married in December of the same year in a private ceremony in Gurugram.
The 28-year-old dancer, Dhanashree is known for her fusion dance performances that blend traditional Indian dance forms with contemporary styles. Recently, Chahal was spotted amongst the spectators sitting next to social media star RJ Mahvash during the Champions Trophy Final. However, this was not the first time the two have been linked together. Last year, in December, a picture of RJ Mahvash with the cricketer from a Christmas celebration went viral.
The social media star then took to Instagram to set the record straight. In a note, she wrote: “Some articles and speculations have been circulating around the Internet. It’s literally funny to see how baseless these rumours are. If you get seen with a person of the opposite gender, does that mean you are dating them? I’m sorry, what year is this? And how many people are you all dating then?”
“I have been patient for 2-3 days now, but I won’t let any PR teams drag my name into this to cover up other people’s images. Let people live in peace with their friends and family during tough times.”
Chahal’s IPL journey, spanning over 160 matches, has been nothing short of remarkable. With 205 wickets to his name, he is the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, having surpassed Dwayne Bravo’s record of 183 wickets during the 2023 season. His career average of 22.44 and an economy rate of 7.8 underline his ability to combine wicket-taking prowess with miserly spells, a rare feat in the T20 format.
Chahal’s crowning moment came in 2022 when he donned the Purple Cap for Rajasthan Royals (RR), scalping a phenomenal 27 wickets in the season. During the 2024 edition, Chahal became the first bowler in IPL history to breach the 200-wicket milestone. His IPL tally includes six four-wicket hauls, one five-wicket haul, and a hat-trick. Between 2014 and 2021, Chahal was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s go-to spinner. In 113 matches for the franchise, he scalped 139 wickets, a record that still stands as the highest for any bowler in its colours. Despite his dominance, RCB made the surprising decision not to retain him ahead of the 2022 mega auction. Chahal’s resurgence post-RCB was nothing short of spectacular. Representing RR in the last three seasons, he claimed 66 wickets, underlining his consistent impact.

‘Indian Railways Has Approved Procurement Of 238 New Local Trains For Mumbai,’ Says Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Mumbai: Mumbai’s suburban railway network is set for a major upgrade as the Indian Railways has approved the procurement of 238 new local trains for the city, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced in Parliament recently.
‘A Good News For Mumbaikars,’ Says Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
Vaishnaw called the development “good news for Mumbaikars,” acknowledging the long-standing demand for improved local train services. He revealed that the decision followed discussions with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on enhancing Mumbai’s railway infrastructure.
“I was in Maharashtra, and during my discussions with Devendra Fadnavis regarding the improvement of Mumbai local trains, this topic came up. We are glad to announce that the procurement of 238 new local trains for Mumbai has been finally approved,” Vaishnaw stated.
However, the minister did not specify whether these trains would be air-conditioned. A proposal for 238 AC local trains has been pending with the railway ministry for the past few years. A railway official pointed out that while the plan for AC locals exists, Vaishnaw’s announcement did not confirm whether the newly approved trains will be air-conditioned.

Inflation hike approved on demand of Assembly member Rais Shaikh, proposal for necessary rate hike to Centre

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced that it will send a proposal to the Centre to link the expenditure on nutritious food provided in Anganwadis to inflation to ensure adequate funding. The announcement was made after Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh raised a zero hour question in the Assembly.
The state has 1,03,000 Anganwadi centres and the central government has allocated Rs 1,03,000. Nutritious food has been provided to more than 60 lakh children at the rate of Rs 8 per beneficiary since the year 2017. There is an urgent need to increase the expenditure on nutritious food provided in Anganwadis. Therefore, it should be increased regularly in line with the inflation rate of 6-8 per cent. Shaikh said that to avoid the demand for increase in expenditure, the state government should submit a proposal to the Centre to increase expenditure in line with inflation.
Responding to Shaikh’s demand, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said that we will definitely send a proposal to the Centre soon as suggested by Shaikh.
Shaikh informed that since there has been no increase in the amount provided by the Centre since 2017, the budget allocation has been reduced due to inflation. The budget for 2024-25 has been cut as compared to the provisions for 2023-24. This is affecting the overall scheme of providing nutritious food to children, Shaikh said.
