‘Cannot Say Who Will Be CM After Election’: Devendra Fadnavis Says ‘Authority To Decide Is With Parliamentary Board’

Mumbai: At a time when the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is grappling with the issue of its chief ministerial candidate, the picture in the ruling Mahayuti is not different either. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that while the Mahayuti will contest Assembly elections under Eknath Shinde’s leadership, he cannot say who will be the Chief Minister after the election.

Participating in a conclave organised by a regional news channel, Fadnavis said, the authority (to decide on CM) was with the parliamentary board of our party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). There was no dispute among the alliance partners over the chief ministerial face, he added further.

Eknath Shinde is heading the state government and the person who holds the post of Chief Minister leads the election, said Fadnavis adding, the assembly election will be contested under the leadership of Eknath Shinde.

Fadnavis also made it clear that there were no differences among the partners in Mahayuti on the issue of CM. The BJP parliamentary board will take a decision on it after the assembly elections and it will be acceptable to all of us. Eknath Shinde is the head of the state, so we will go before the people under his leadership, Fadnavis reiterated.

When asked about any assurance given to Shinde by the central leadership on the CM’s post after the elections, the reply given by Fadnavis was that if they have any discussion about this, it will come before us after some time and we will decide accordingly.

A Snipe At Uddhav Thackeray And The Reply By Aaditya

Fadnavis took some potshots at his arch political rival Uddhav Thackeray also. If there have been three-four faces in the mind of Sharad Pawar it surely not be that of Uddhav Thackeray, said the Dy CM. He was camping in Delhi for 3-4 days to get his name announced as the CM candidate but nothing was achieved.

Moreover, the Congress senior leader Sonia Gandhi did not allow him to click the picture of the meeting he had with her, Fadnavis claimed. Participating in the same conclave Aaditya Thackeray offered his reply on this. Taking a jibe, the former minister said, if it was not for Uddhav Thackeray, even Fadnavis’s face is not before the Mahayuti leaders as the next CM.

When asked about his reaction Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde said, do your duty and do not worry about the results. I work hard, and don’t think about the outcome. I do not think what I have achieved but rather what the state has received, he said. We are working as a team and will continue to do so, said the CM.

Congress To Hold Meeting Over Poor Performances In Assembly Elections

The Congress will hold its working committee meeting on November 29 following its poor performance in the recently concluded Maharashtra and Haryana elections.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting is expected to focus on the party’s electoral defeats in Maharashtra and Haryana, along with the current political situation.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi suffered a setback in Maharashtra. The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, won only 20 seats, while Congress managed 16, and the NCP (SP) secured just 10.

Under the seat-sharing arrangement within the MVA, Congress contested the majority of the seats (101) and was expected to drive the alliance forward. However, the party managed to win only 16 seats.

In Haryana, the BJP formed its third consecutive government after winning 48 seats in the 90- member assembly. Congress secured 37 seats.

NCP-SP Accuses BJP Of Using Eknath Shinde To Win 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections

NCP-SP leader Clyde Crasto on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using Eknath Shinde to win the elections.

Crasto said, “The whole issue of who is going to be the next Maharashtra CM is turning out to be a big question. During the elections, the BJP always said that they were contesting the elections with Eknath Shinde as the face of Mahayuti. Now when the time has come and he has also performed, and it is the time to make him the CM again, the party is talking about the Bihar model not being there and other issues. This clearly means they are using Eknath Shinde.”

Further, he said that injustice was being done to Shinde.

“This is injustice to Shinde… Are they trying to say that he is not good enough to be the CM or are they trying to say that they did what they wanted to do, used him and now they want their man as the CM? Whatever it is they have got the mandate of the people and they need to respect it. They need to announce the Chief Minister who will lead Maharashtra prosperity,” he added.

Earlier, on November 26, Shiv Sena leader Shambhuraj Desai said that all the three leaders –Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar–would sit together and hold discussions if the deadlock continues over the choice of name of next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

The election results for Maharashtra were announced on November 23 but the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is yet to decide on the Chief Minister.

“Who would lead our Mahayuti and who would be the CM face of Mahayuti? Our three leaders, Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, would sit together and discuss this. Whatever they decide will be accepted by all the MLAs of Mahayuti and the same decision will be implemented…,” Shiv Sena leader Shambhuraj Desai.

“Every party feels that a leader of their own party should get the CM post. If you ask me, as a Shiv Sainik, I would say that our main leader, Eknath Shinde, should get the CM post. The same goes for BJP leaders who want Devendra Fadnavis to get the post…But all three leaders will sit together and discuss. A solution would come out after discussions,” he added.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday said Devendra Fadnavis should lead the Mahayuti government as “people of Maharashtra want him” to be the next Chief Minister, and Eknath Shinde can be the Deputy CM or join the Modi government.
