Thane crime: Former Mumbai Shree winner, addicted to steroids, stabs parents; mother dies, father’s condition critical

Thane: A 35-year-old man stabbed his father and mother brutally at Vihang Valley, Kasarvadavali, Ghodbunder Road Thane West at around 11:15am. The mother, Vinita Bhatkar (66) succumbed to her injuries while the father, Vilas Bhatkar (72) is in critical condition at Vedant hospital in Thane informed police officials.

Rajesh Babshetty, Senior Police Inspector of Kasarwadwali police station, stated, “The 35-year-old man identified as Sankalp Bhatkar stabbed his father and mother on Thursday morning. According to the neighbors, the accused is a bodybuilder who used to take steroids, rendering him mentally unfit due to heavy drug consumption. Three months ago, he got married, but his relationships with his father, mother, and wife were strained. The frustration caused by the consumption of steroids led to conflicts with his parents, who constantly urged him to stop using drugs.”

Attacked family with onion cutter

One neighbor from Vihang Valley, speaking anonymously, said, “I have known Sankalp Bhatkar since 2019. He used to be a fitness enthusiast and participated in various bodybuilding competitions. He even won the Mumbai Shree award for bodybuilding in 2019. However, over the past year, he started taking steroids and drugs. On Thursday, he viciously stabbed his father and mother with an onion cutter. After the attack, he walked out holding the onion cutter and headed towards Coral Heights building on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, where his sister used to live.”

Man went in search of sister to kill her

An investigating police officer revealed, “After stabbing his father and mother, the accused, Sankalp Bhatkar, attempted to locate and kill his sister, who resided in Coral Heights, Thane. However, he was unable to find her. Subsequently, he rode his bike with license plate number MH-04-HL-1489 to his mother-in-law and father-in-law’s residence in Kurla Nehru Nagar. He knocked on their door, but upon learning that the Kasarwadwali police had issued an alert on social media regarding Sankalp Bhatkar, they did not open the door.

Meanwhile, the Kasarwadwali police informed the Nehru Nagar police about the situation. Sankalp Bhatkar was arrested by the Nehru Nagar police at his father-in-law and mother-in-law’s house and handed over to the custody of the Kasarwadwali police station. We have arrested him and registered a case against him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”

Mumbai Airport Customs Seize 7.318 Kg Of Hydroponic Weed & 99 Bottles Of Codeine Syrup Across 4 Cases

Mumbai: During the period 15th-20th July, the officers at Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs, Zone-III, made a remarkable seizure of suspected NDPS (hydroponic weed) weighing 7.318 kg and 99 bottles of 100ml each cough syrup containing codeine phosphate across 04 cases. 04 persons were Arrested. 

Highlights of the case: 

(14/15.07.2025) 

Case 1. On the basis of profiling, Customs officers at CSMI Airport , Mumbai Customs, Zone – III intercepted 01 passenger arriving from Bangkok to Mumbai and recovered 610 grams of hydroponic weed. The smuggled goods were concealed inside the trolley bag carried by the passenger. 01 passenger was arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Case 2. On the basis of profiling, Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai Customs Zone -III intercepted 01 passenger arriving from Bangkok to Mumbai and Recovered 5256 grams of hydroponic weed. The smuggled goods were concealed inside the check-in baggage carried by the passenger. 01 passenger was arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Case 3. On the basis of Specific Intel, Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai Customs Zone -III intercepted 01 passenger arriving from Bangkok to Mumbai and Recovered 1452 grams of hydroponic weed. The smuggled goods were concealed inside the trolley bag carried by the passenger. 01 passenger was arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Case 4. On the basis of information received, Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai Customs Zone -III intercepted 01 passenger departing from Mumbai to Riyadh and recovered 99 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate as its constituent. The smuggled goods were concealed inside the check-in baggage carried by the passenger. 01 passenger was arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Thane Crime Branch Seizes ₹1.69 Crore Worth MD Powder; Man Arrested While En Route To Mumbra

The Thane Crime Branch Unit One has arrested a man for allegedly possessing over 1 kilogram of MD powder, valued at ₹1.69 crore, which he intended to sell in Mumbra. The accused has been identified as Mohanlal Joshi alias Sharma, a resident of Kudus village in Wada, Palghar.

According to officials, acting on a tip-off received on July 18, a team was deployed near the Mumbra bypass flyover bridge, where the suspect was expected to arrive. The man was intercepted in his car en route to Mumbra. Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered and seized 1.209 kilograms of MD powder, with an estimated value of ₹1,69,26,000.

He was taken to the police station, and a case was registered against him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

An investigating officer from Thane Crime Branch Unit One said they are currently probing the source of the contraband and its intended recipients. Efforts are also underway to determine how many others may be involved in the case. Further investigation is ongoing.

Airline Employee Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Air Hostess In Mira Road, Arrested At Mumbai Airport

Mumbai: A London airline employee was arrested at Mumbai airport while attempting to flee to Hong Kong, accused of raping a 23-year-old air hostess. Following a long-haul flight, the man allegedly forced the victim to drink excessively at a party in Mira Road. After she became heavily intoxicated, he took her to his residence where he assaulted her.

The victim faced mental trauma and threats from the accused, who warned her against reporting the crime. After the victim filed an FIR, the suspect planned to leave India. Both individuals are employed by the same airline, and the incident occurred after their interaction during the flight.

The police state that she experienced psychological trauma following the assault and was reportedly intimidated by the perpetrator. “The defendant cautioned her about severe repercussions if she reported to the police,” stated a police officer according to a report by the Hindustan Times. She persisted in her work and traveled overseas on another extended journey.

FIR Filed Against The Accused

Upon her return to Mumbai, she contacted the Navghar police, who on Saturday charged the suspect under Sections 64 (rape) and 351(1) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (deliberate insult with the intent to incite a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Accused Caught Trying To Flee From India Permanently

Immediately after the FIR was filed, the suspect got ready to escape. The officer mentioned that he landed a position with an airline company based in Hong Kong and also got his visa. The Navghar police subsequently reached out to the vigilance unit of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Sahar police to detain the suspect at the airport. “Senior police inspector Dheeraj Koli stated, ‘The investigation is being carried out by police sub-inspector Sanjay Lokhandemali.’”
