Two accused involved in ATM fraud arrested by Delhi Police
New Delhi, Jan 3: Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two accused allegedly involved in ATM fraud in the South-West District. The arrests were made by the staff of Kishangarh Police Station as part of intensified patrolling and surveillance to curb crime and ensure the safety and security of residents.
According to a statement released by the South-West District police, the arrested accused have been identified as Salman, son of Kabir, and Salman, son of Usman. With their arrest, the police recovered one country-made pistol (desi katta), two live cartridges, Rs 12,700 in cash, four ATM jamming devices, and one screwdriver allegedly used for breaking or opening ATM shutters.
The police said that the staff of Kishangarh Police Station had been directed to maintain a strict vigil over suspicious persons and criminals involved in illegal activities. As part of these directions, patrolling was intensified in sensitive areas falling under the jurisdiction of the police station.
On January 1, during routine patrolling, Head Constable Subhash and Head Constable Hitender noticed a suspicious person roaming in the area of Kishangarh Police Station. On spotting the police team, the individual allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief chase. During the personal search of the accused, identified as Salman, son of Kabir, a country-made pistol was recovered from his possession.
The information was immediately conveyed to the Duty Officer of Kishangarh Police Station, following which Sub-Inspector Kamal Chaudhary, along with other police staff, reached the spot and completed the necessary legal formalities. A case vide FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 25 of the Arms Act was subsequently registered at Kishangarh Police Station, and the accused was formally arrested.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed his involvement in ATM fraud activities and revealed the name of his associate, Salman, son of Usman, who had allegedly supplied him with the illegal firearm. Acting on this information, the police apprehended the co-accused, from whose possession two live cartridges were recovered.
Further interrogation revealed that the accused used to commit ATM fraud by inserting small metallic jamming clips inside the cash-dispensing shutter of ATM machines. When unsuspecting customers attempted to withdraw money, the amount would be debited from their accounts, but the cash would not be dispensed due to the jamming device.
Believing the issue to be a technical fault and expecting a refund from the bank, the customers would leave the ATM. The accused would then remove the jamming clip and take away the cash trapped inside the machine. To protect themselves while committing these crimes, the accused allegedly carried illegal firearms. Further investigation in the case is currently underway.

Mumbai: Seven families duped of Rs 68.5 Lakh in govt job scam; cops launch hunt

Mumbai, July 31: Seven families were cheated of Rs 68.50 lakh on the promise of securing government jobs for their children, with the accused claiming to have influential contacts in the Maharashtra Mantralaya (State Secretariat). The Azad Maidan Police have registered a fraud case and launched a search for the accused.
According to Mumbai Police, a major fraud involving the collection of lakhs of rupees from multiple families under the pretext of providing government employment has come to light in the city. Acting on complaints filed by the victims, the Azad Maidan Police have booked two accused persons for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Among the victims is a retired Sister-in-Charge from GT Hospital. Police said the accused collectively swindled Rs 68.50 lakh from seven families over several years by promising government jobs.
Investigators revealed that the scam dates back to 2014. The complainant was searching for employment opportunities for her son when Suryakant Nivrutti Magre, a neighbour and colleague residing in the GT Hospital staff quarters, approached her with an offer. Magre allegedly claimed that his relative, Yogesh Jagannath Patankar, worked at the Mantralaya and had considerable influence in securing government appointments.
The accused promised to obtain a Senior Clerk position in a government department for the complainant’s son and demanded Rs 5 lakh in return. Trusting Magre because of their professional and personal association, the complainant paid the amount in instalments between April and December 2014. Police said she even mortgaged her jewellery to arrange the money.
After receiving the payment, the accused allegedly continued delaying the appointment process. On December 10, 2019, the complainant’s son was sent to a Primary Health Centre in Khalapur for what was described as a mandatory medical examination. Upon reaching the centre, the family discovered that several other candidates and their parents had also been called for similar tests.
However, no appointment letters were issued. The accused allegedly continued making excuses, citing administrative delays and later the COVID-19 pandemic. As years passed without any progress, the victims realised they had been cheated.
Further investigation revealed that six other families had fallen victim to the same scheme, resulting in a total loss of Rs 68.50 lakh. The Azad Maidan Police have recorded statements from the victims and intensified efforts to trace and arrest the accused.

Maharashtra cyber police register FIR over AI-generated videos targeting PM Modi, Piyush Goyal

Mumbai, July 31: Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered an FIR regarding the circulation of allegedly AI-generated and morphed videos of Union Minister Piyush Goyal and objectionable content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The action was initiated following a complaint filed by a BJP social media office-bearer.
According to officials, the Maharashtra Nodal Cyber Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals and launched an investigation into the matter. The FIR has been filed under Sections 318(2), 336, 352, 353(1), 353(2), 356(1), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 66(D) and 67 of the Information Technology Act.
The complainant alleged that during recent student protests, morphed or AI-generated videos of Union Minister Piyush Goyal were circulated through various social media accounts. He further claimed that objectionable content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also shared online.
According to the complaint, a video was posted from a Facebook account named “Maharashtra Dharma” with a caption claiming that Piyush Goyal had spoken about publicly hanging the protesters, referring to them as “cockroaches”.
The complainant alleged that the minister appeared to be making objectionable remarks in the circulated clip. However, after comparing it with the original video released by a news agency, he concluded that the video had allegedly been digitally manipulated or created using artificial intelligence.
The complainant also highlighted several other social media posts, including an allegedly morphed image of Prime Minister Modi shared through a Facebook account, an objectionable video circulated on Instagram, and another video containing abusive language directed at the Prime Minister.
According to the complaint, the content was circulated with the intention of spreading misinformation, provoking public discontent, and insulting individuals holding constitutional positions.
Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and trace the operators of the social media accounts involved. Further investigation into the case is in progress.

Rs 28 crore, 15 kg gold seized in Bengal Police raid; relative of Tulu Mondal arrested

Kolkata, July 30: After almost 24 hours of marathon raids and search operations coupled with interrogation, the Birbhum District Police in West Bengal on Thursday arrested Minar Mondal, a relative of Tulu Mondal, an influential stone-quarry owner in the district.
Following the marathon operations that started on Wednesday afternoon, the police recovered huge unaccounted cash and gold from Minar’s residence. The cops brought currency-counting machines from a local bank branch to count the cash seized.
The counting and recounting of the cash recovered was completed on Thursday morning; the total cash seizure had been found to be a little over Rs 28 crore, said a member of the investigating team.
Apart from that, he added, 15 kilograms of gold, whose estimated market value is over Rs 21 crore, have been seized from Minar’s residence.
“The estimated value of the seized cash and gold would be to the tune of around Rs 50 crore,” he added.
On Thursday morning, Minar was formally arrested, and the cops first took him to a local police station. At the same time, the police left his residence with a couple of trunks filled with seized cash and gold.
Minar will be presented to a district court in Suri later in the day, and the public prosecutor will seek his police custody.
Initially, Minar refused to answer repeated queries from the cops about the sources of such huge cash and gold. However, he finally admitted that the money and gold recovered were sourced from a syndicated crime racket, confirmed Birbhum’s district police Superintendent, Bidit Raj Bundesh.
According to police sources, last Tuesday, officials of Mohammad Bazar police station in Birbhum arrested seven dacoits. Based on the information from that dacoits’ group, the investigators found the location of the money and gold ‘mine’ in the house of Minar. Accordingly, the raids and search operations started at Minar’s residence on Wednesday afternoon, which continued till Thursday morning.
It is learnt that Minar was a bus driver in the state-run transport corporation. However, locals said he was involved in a major way with the stone-quarry business of Tulu Mondal, who again was a close confidant of Anubrata Mondal, the former Trinamool Congress district president in Birbhum.
The recovery of such a huge amount of cash and gold from his residence this morning has left his neighbours dumbstruck. In the past, the stone-quarry owner, Tulu Mondal, was accused of illegal stone mining.
Tulu Mondal’s name had also come up in the cattle smuggling case. He was under the watch of the ED in 2022. At that time, the Central investigators raided his house and office. The investigators are trying to find whether the huge cash and gold recovered from Minar Mondal’s residence were actually owned by Tulu Mondal.
