NIA team visits Aurangzeb grave in Maharashtra, keeps eye on suspicious movements
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, March 21: Amid the clamour for the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has reached Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to inspect Khultabad where the tomb is situated and was keeping a close vigil on suspicious movements.
This comes after Nagpur was rocked by violence on March 17 night over the issue. The NIA team also visited the adjoining Parbhani, Jalna and Nanded districts in Marathwada, and Buldhana in Vidarbha to monitor suspicious movements there. The team has reportedly sought the assistance of the state Anti-Terrorist Squad.
Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has put up tin sheets on two sides of the 18th-century structure. It was done three days ago by the district administration after District Collector Dilip Swami and Superintendent of Police Vinaykumar Rathod visited the grave. Aurangzeb’s grave is protected by ASI as a ‘Monument of National Importance’.
The Nagpur police have registered a sedition case against Fahim Khan, the mastermind of the March 17 violence, and five others.
The Nagpur Cyber Crime Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Lohit Matani said, “A case of sedition has been registered against six persons, including Fahim Khan. Some people supported the violence against the police and praised it. The number may increase further. Some comments were made while supporting this attack, which further fuelled the riots. A case of sedition has been registered against the people who made such comments.“
He said that more than 300 social media accounts have been investigated in connection with the riots that broke out in Nagpur. Out of these, 140 accounts have been found to have objectionable posts and videos.
The DCP added that the process of registering a case against all of them is underway.
Further, Maharashtra Cyber, a nodal agency for cybersecurity and cybercrime enforcement, has initiated action against social medical accounts spreading inflammatory content. Maharashtra Cyber, in coordination with the Nagpur City Cyber Police Station, has identified multiple social media accounts engaged in disseminating objectionable content concerning the recent riots in Nagpur.
“More than 140 instances of objectionable content across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube have been identified and reported. In response, notices under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 have been issued to facilitate the immediate takedown of such content. Additionally, notices under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 have been issued to uncover the real identities of the individuals operating these accounts. Strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for spreading such provocative content,” said the press release issued late Wednesday night by the office of the Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra State Cyber Department.

LS sees 2nd adjournment on Day 1 as Oppn storms well over ‘vote theft’, SIR issues

New Delhi, Dec 1: The Winter Session of Lok Sabha plunged into turmoil yet again on Monday as vociferous protests by opposition members over alleged “vote chori” in recent elections and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and union territories forced a second adjournment of the day till 2 p.m.
The House had reconvened at noon after a brief and stormy sitting from 11 a.m. Within minutes, opposition MPs rushed into the Well, raising thunderous slogans of ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor!’ and waving placards demanding an immediate discussion on what they called a “conspiracy to delete genuine voters” through the SIR exercise.
Deputy Speaker Sandhya Rai, presiding over the proceedings, repeatedly urged the members to return to their seats. She assured the House that none of the more than 20 adjournment motion notices submitted by the opposition had been rejected by the Speaker and that the issues could be taken up if the House was allowed to function.
Her appeals, however, went unheeded amid the unrelenting din.
Before the protests drowned out all business, the Lok Sabha managed to complete some routine but significant work.
Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Pankaj Chaudhary and Kirti Vardhan Singh laid papers on behalf of their respective ministries.
The Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers presented two key reports — one examining the steep rise in medicine prices and its impact on common citizens, and another on achieving self-reliance in fertiliser production.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan moved a motion to elect two Lok Sabha members to the Council of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, while extensions were granted to the select committees examining the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill and the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Supplementary Demands for Grants (First Batch) for 2025-26 and introduced three bills, including the Health Security and National Security Cess Bill, 2025, which immediately drew sharp protests from Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy, who termed it an “extra tax burden on the aam aadmi”.
As the sloganeering only grew louder, an exasperated Deputy Speaker warned that she would be compelled to adjourn the House.
She asked them, “Why do you not want to run the zero hour?”
When calm did not return, she finally rose and announced adjournment till 2 p.m.
With both sides digging in — the opposition adamant on not letting the House run without a debate on electoral malpractice and the treasury benches determined to push ahead with legislative business — the Winter Session 2025 appears set for prolonged disruption.

Mumbai Local Train Update: Central Railway Services Disrupted, 30-40 Minutes Delay Reported; Commuters Flood X With Complaints

Mumbai: Mumbai’s suburban rail network faced yet another rough start to the week as Central Railway services were delayed by nearly 30 minutes on Monday morning, leaving thousands of office-goers stranded during peak hours. The exact reason behind the widespread disruption was not immediately known, though railway authorities later issued a clarification.
The delays began early in the morning and quickly triggered a chain reaction across multiple services on the Central Line. This resulted in overcrowded platforms, slow-moving trains and mounting frustration among daily commuters who rely heavily on the network for work travel.
Irritated passengers took to social media platform X to highlight the situation, tagging senior officials and the Central Railway handle. Many criticised what they described as persistent issues and poor maintenance.
One user wrote, “@Central_Railway is not properly maintaining the track and rakes. It is evident from daily delays and incidents like Mumbra. Last night, a Thane-bound train from CSMT was delayed by 51 minutes. How can this be explained?” Another commuter shared a picture showing a train running 56 minutes late and questioned, “Isn’t the Central Railway administration ashamed?”
Screenshots shared from M-indicator, a widely used local train tracking app, showed several trains on the Central Line running behind schedule, some by more than 30 minutes. A user tagging multiple railway authorities posted, “Central Suburban Railway has become a joke that even kids are tired of. Every day there are 20-minute delays on almost every train from Badlapur–Ambernath. It’s truly frustrating.”
In response to the rising complaints and a viral commuter post, Central Railway issued an explanation via X through the Senior Divisional Operations Manager (Coaching), Mumbai Division. “We are committed to maintaining punctuality; however, local trains have been delayed due to issues such as chain pulling and trespassing. These disruptions often create a cascading effect on the overall schedule. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
Despite the clarification, many commuters demanded stronger preventive measures and better communication from railway authorities, pointing out that Monday’s issues have become part of a recurring pattern rather than an isolated event. With Mumbai’s local trains serving as the city’s lifeline, passengers are hoping for improved punctuality and more reliable weekday operations in the coming days.

He can’t go bang-bang straight away: Gavaskar breaks down Kohli’s masterclass vs SA

New Delhi, Dec 1: Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has lauded Virat Kohli’s disciplined and calculated approach after the talismanic batter struck a match-winning century against South Africa in the first ODI in Ranchi.
Kohli was at his brilliant best as he blasted 135 from just 120 deliveries, his 52nd ODI century, on Sunday and in the process help India to a 17-run triumph and a 1-0 series lead in the three-game ODI series against the Proteas.
Reflecting on Kohli’s technique and temperament, Gavaskar said the India talisman succeeds because he understands his own game better than anyone else.
“He is the type of batter who can’t go bang-bang straight away. Some batters can, but Kohli knows his game inside out, and he knows that’s not his strength. His strength is striking the ball through the covers, playing the straight drive and the flick. Yes, he’ll occasionally play the bottom-hand flick for six Over square-leg or mid-wicket, but otherwise he plays in the V. That’s the safest way to bat, especially when the pitch may keep low or the ball may move around,” Gavaskar said on JioStar.
He also highlighted Kohli’s exceptional running between the wickets, which he believes remains a defining feature of the former captain’s batting.
“The running between the wickets is crucial, singles are the lifeblood of batting in any format. You keep taking singles and your innings keeps flowing. Even if the crowd wants quicker scoring, he bats as the team needs,” Gavaskar noted.
Kohli also shared a 136-run stand with former skipper Rohit Sharma (57). This was the 20th stand of 100 runs or more between the two.
Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn lauded Rohit’s 57-run innings, during which he shattered the former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi’s world record for most sixes in ODIs by hitting three maximums.
“He batted beautifully. He gave one opportunity to Tony de Zorzi, could have been a different situation, but he capitalised well after that. He loves those cover drives and flicks, comes down the wicket when he wants to, and puts bowlers under pressure.
One particular shot summed up his innings for me: third man was up, point was up, and he just guided the ball delicately past short third man for four. It caught everyone off guard. He was reading the game superbly. He’s a fantastic batter. I love watching him, even though I never got him out,” Steyn said.
Notably, Kohli, playing his 306th ODI, and Rohit, playing in his 277th one-day international, combined for their 392nd international match together across formats, surpassing the legendary duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, who appeared in a whopping 391 games between 1996 and 2012.
