Mumbai Local Train Update: Mega, Jumbo Blocks Announced On Central, Harbour & Western Lines On February 15: Check Time & Route Here
Mumbai: Mumbaikars travelling on Sunday are likely to face delays and cancellations as Central and Western Railways have announced scheduled maintenance blocks across key suburban corridors. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and check updated timetables before stepping out.
On the Western Railway, a jumbo block will be carried out between Ram Mandir and Borivali on the Up Fast line and the fifth line from 10 am to 2 pm. During this period, Up Fast line local trains will be diverted to the sixth line, while trains on the fifth line will be operated on the Down Fast line. Some Harbour line services will run only up to Goregaon station. Officials said that due to these changes, several services are expected to run late, and passengers travelling to affected stations should consider using Harbour line services or alternative modes of transport.
Meanwhile, Central Railway will undertake a mega block between Matunga and Mulund stations on both the Up and Down lines from 11.05 am to 3.45 pm. During the block period, fast line services in both directions will be diverted to the slow lines. Railway officials said that the diversion will lead to cancellation of some services, while others may run with delays of up to 20 minutes.
In addition, a separate block has been announced on the Harbour line between Kurla and Vashi from 11.10 am to 4.10 pm. During this time, all Up and Down services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vashi–Belapur–Panvel will remain cancelled. To reduce inconvenience, special local trains will operate between CSMT and Kurla, and between Panvel and Vashi. Services between Thane and Vashi or Nerul will continue as per the regular schedule.
Railway authorities said the blocks are essential for maintenance and infrastructure safety, and urged passengers to stay updated through official announcements and plan their travel accordingly.

Mumbai Crime Branch records IIT-Bombay Prof’s statement in student suicide case; Doolla denies all charges

Mumbai, Oct 3: The Mumbai Crime Branch, which is investigating the alleged abetment to suicide case involving IIT-Bombay student Sahil Wakode, has recorded the statement of Professor Suryanarayan Doolla. The professor was questioned for approximately eight hours during which his statement was recorded. He denied all allegations levelled against him.
Wakode’s parents had said in their police complaint that Professor Doolla had harassed their son. Acting on the allegations, the Crime Branch questioned the professor about the events leading up to Wakode’s death and his interactions with the student.
During the interrogation, Professor Doolla denied all the allegations levelled against him, according to sources.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is also expected to summon IIT-Bombay Director Shireesh Kedare soon, to record his statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the police are examining CCTV footage from the examination hall to gather crucial information about the events and activities preceding Wakode’s death.
The Crime Branch has so far recorded statements from around 50 people, including Wakode’s parents and classmates, as part of its probe.
CCTV footage from September 18 reportedly showed Professor Doolla pulling Wakode aside after allegedly catching him using a mobile phone during an examination.
Following Wakode’s death, IIT-Bombay had said that the student had uploaded the question paper on ChatGPT to seek answers. The institute had also stated that no disciplinary action was taken against him in connection with the incident.
Wakode’s father, Ravindra Wakode, had claimed that his son told him about being discriminated against by Professor Doolla.
“My son had told me about this discrimination, but I told him that it is difficult to secure admission to IIT and advised him to bear with it,” he had told reporters.
Mumbai Police subsequently registered a case of abetment to suicide based on a complaint lodged by Wakode’s father.
The IIT-Bombay faculty, however, came out in support of Professor Doolla, stating that he was being targeted for merely performing his professional duties.
“The student indulged in malpractice during the examination. Prof Doolla reported the matter to the head of the department. If a professor is being vilified just for discharging his duties, then it is a problem for the entire teaching community in the country,” said Prof Rajkumar Pant, chief of the IIT-Bombay Faculty Forum.

Sanjay Raut predicts Cabinet reshuffle by early 2027, calls for CEC’s resignation

Mumbai, Oct 3: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday predicted major political developments at the Centre within the next three months, claiming the BJP-led government could be compelled to undertake a significant Cabinet reshuffle by January-February next year.
Demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Raut at a press conference here announced a massive joint protest march on October 4 led by Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.
The high-stakes rally, backed by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and broader opposition factions, he said, signals a rare show of unity between the estranged Thackeray cousins against the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Claiming that the nation’s political tides have turned since mid-September, Raut asserted that internal friction within the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has severely weakened the government.
Warning the government against suppressing dissent, he stated that arbitrary police action or force would fail to stop public protests, declaring, “Whether it is batons or bullets, they cannot stop us.”
Pointing to alleged discrepancies in election administration and voter roll updates, Raut demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the ECI of bias.
Detailing logistics for the protest march, Raut announced that the route was adjusted due to technical bottlenecks along the original stretch. The morcha will start at 11 a.m. from Metro Cinema and conclude at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters.
He said it will be followed by a public rally. Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena UBT) & Raj Thackeray (MNS) will lead the march, which has been supported by Congress, NCP (SP), Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), & Left Front.
Raut confirmed that senior opposition figures, including Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule, were consulted during coalition discussions. He urged all democratic forces and citizens to join the march, characterising it as a critical movement to safeguard democratic institutions from state overreach.
