‘Move To Safer Places,’ Appeals Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde As Continuous Rains Hit State
Mumbai: As the state of Maharashtra faces the effects of continuous rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday took stock of the situation in the state.
CM called the Raigad collector and told him to help all flood-affected people and assured him of all help. Traffic has been halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route following the debris from a landslide as a result of the heavy rains.
According to Raigad Police, “Traffic is stopped at Tamhini Ghat in the Raigad-Pune route due to a landslide. Traffic will be stopped for the next few hours until the debris is cleared.”

Shinde said that water is still there on the roads and in the houses in Pune. He also said that the District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner have been put on alert.
“There is water on the roads and in the houses of people in Pune. There is a lot of rain at Khadakwasla Dam and in the catchment area. The District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner are on alert,” he said.
NDRF & SDRF Teams Deployed
Further, he said that teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed and army and airlifting teams have also been kept on alert.
“Teams of NDRF and SDRF are deployed there. I have spoken to the Army to keep their teams on alert. Preparations have also been made for airlifting operations if needed.”

Shinde appealed to the people and asked them to cooperate with the administration to move to safer places. He also said that an orange alert had been sounded in Mumbai for the next three hours.
“I appeal to the people to cooperate with the administration to move to safer places. In Mumbai, an ‘orange’ alert has been sounded for the next 3 hours. I have spoken to the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to take all measures. 222 water pumps are working to drain excess water in different areas,” he said.
He added, “There is water accumulated on railway tracks in the Kurla and Ghatkopar areas. Work is being done to open the Andheri subway, which is closed right now. I appeal to Mumbaikars not to venture outside, if not required. I have also spoken to Raigad Collector and directed him to remain alert.”
Meanwhile, due to the heavy rains in the hilly areas of Pune in the Western Ghats, the Pune administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges.

A boat developed a technical fault near the Gateway of India, following which the police safely rescued the boat and its passengers.

Mumbai: Gateway of India Police safely rescued the sea boat and passengers. The sea ferry boat ‘Anwari’, which makes a half-hour sea trip from the Gateway of India, broke down in the sea at a distance of about 1.5 nautical miles, while returning to the Gateway at around 3:30 pm. A total of 38 people were on board the ship, including 34 passengers and 4 crew members. As soon as this information was received from the control room, Police Constable Abhijit Shinde and Police Naik Guru of Bat No. 01 immediately understood the seriousness of the situation and started inquiring about other boats in the vicinity. They came to know that the ferry boat ‘Azad Hind’ was near the stranded ship. After this, they contacted Junaid Mulla, the owner of ‘Azad Hind’, and arranged for ‘Azad Hind’ to be sent to the location of the disabled boat. ‘Azad Hind’ arrived immediately, towed ‘Anwari’ back and brought it safely to Jetty No. 2 at Gateway of India. All 34 passengers and 4 crew members on board are safe. The passengers and the boat were rescued due to the presence of mind and cooperation of the Mumbai Police constables, which is also being praised on social media. While the boat that was stuck in the sea was broken and unable to travel further, the police provided immediate assistance, due to which a major accident was averted.

Ferry carrying 38 people breaks down near Mumbai Gateway of India

Mumbai, Sep 4: A ferry carrying 34 passengers and four crew members broke down in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai iconic Gateway of India on Thursday evening, prompting a swift rescue operation by the authorities and another ferry operator.
The incident involved the Anwari ferry, which operates short sea rides from the Gateway of India.
According to the information available, the ferry developed a technical problem at around 8.30 p.m. while it was returning towards the Gateway of India.
The vessel, which had 38 people on board, reportedly stopped functioning approximately 1.5 nautical miles from the Gateway of India. The passengers and crew were left stranded at sea following the technical failure.
After receiving information about the incident through the control room, Mumbai Police immediately assessed the situation and coordinated with nearby ferry operators to ensure the safe return of everyone on board.
Another ferry was sent to the location and reached the stranded vessel. The rescue boat subsequently towed the Anwari ferry back towards the Gateway of India jetty.
All 34 passengers and four crew members were safely brought back to the jetty. No injuries or other untoward incidents were reported in connection with the breakdown.
The prompt coordination between the police, the nearby ferry operator and the crew helped ensure that the passengers were brought back to shore safely and without further incident.
The incident comes amid regular ferry and tourist boat operations in the waters off Mumbai, particularly around the Gateway of India, which attracts a large number of visitors taking short sea rides.
Authorities are expected to ascertain the exact nature of the technical problem that caused the ferry to stop functioning. The incident, however, ended without any casualties, with all 38 people safely returning to the Gateway of India.

19-Year-Old Man Kills Wife, Ends Life Following Domestic Dispute in Agripada

MUMBAI: A tragic incident unfolded in South Mumbai early Friday morning after a 19-year-old daily wage laborer allegedly murdered his 19-year-old wife before ending his own life near Kalapani Chowki in Agripada.
According to the Agripada Police, the incident occurred at around 5:00 AM. The accused, identified as Mohd. Ehsan Sheikh (19), got into an altercation with his wife, Jannat Ehsan Sheikh (19), following an ongoing domestic dispute. In a fit of rage, Sheikh slit Jannat’s throat with a kitchen knife, killing her on the spot.
Immediately after the assault, Sheikh turned the same weapon on himself and slit his own throat.
Local residents alerted the police, and Sheikh was rushed in critical condition to the nearby BYL Nair Hospital.
However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The Agripada Police have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the double tragedy. A case of murder is being registered against Mohd. Ehsan Sheikh, while an Accidental Death Report (ADR) is being filed regarding his death. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dispute is currently underway.
