Lara Dutta asks to ‘start a conversation’ in the fight against Alzheimer’s: My mother has been..

Mumbai, Sep 21: Actress Lara Dutta attended a conference on Alzheimer’s awareness on World Alzheimer’s Day on Monday.

Addressing the media after the conference, Lara said that the biggest tool in the fight against Alzheimer’s is to ‘start a conversation’ and identify the signs as early as possible for better treatment.

Sharing her personal experience with the disease, the ‘Partner’ actress added that her 80-year-old mother has been living with Alzheimer’s and dementia for almost 10 years now.

Lara said, “Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, and the most important message I would like to share is that we tend to think Alzheimer’s is just a disease of forgetfulness. My mother is 80 years old, and she has been living with Alzheimer’s and dementia for quite a long time—about 10 years, a decade. And the kind of care we have been able to provide her would not have been possible without the support of great doctors, a strong support system, and caregivers.”

The ‘Chalo Dilli’ actress said that if we notice any changes in our loved ones, we should reach out to professionals so that they can receive the proper treatment and care.

“So, I would like to say that when it comes to Alzheimer’s disease, the most important thing today is that we talk about it and start a conversation. We should start as early as possible so that we can identify the disease in its early stages and empower ourselves. That way, if we notice that our loved ones, or even we ourselves, are beginning to experience changes in thinking or memory, we can support ourselves in the best possible way. We should not think of this as simply a problem of forgetfulness and wait five years to see what happens. It is very important that you do not confuse this with the normal aging process,” she added.

At the end, Lara asked all to reach out to good healthcare practitioners, empower themselves by asking questions, and also build the support system required to take care of people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

SC refers Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce cases to mediation for amicable settlement

New Delhi, Oct 15: The Supreme Court on Thursday referred the cheque dishonour cases against actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav and his wife to mediation, directing the parties to explore the possibility of an amicable settlement over the outstanding amount payable to the complainant.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi passed the order after Yadav’s counsel informed the apex court that the remaining Rs 85 lakh had been deposited with the apex court registry on October 13, taking the total deposit to Rs 2 crore.

The CJI-led Bench asked the parties to approach the Supreme Court Mediation Centre with an open mind and make an endeavour to arrive at an amicable settlement.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court observed that Yadav had earlier agreed to sell his ancestral property to arrange the payment and said that an amicable settlement should be explored before the matter proceeded further.

Counsel appearing for Yadav and the complainant, Murli Projects Private Limited, agreed to the proposal for mediation.

Recording the agreement, the bench ordered: “It seems that the matter can be amicably resolved through mediation and consequently, the parties are referred to mediation before the Supreme Court Mediation Centre.”

It also permitted Yadav to seek the release of his passport for professional travel abroad, subject to the conditions imposed by the trial court.

The latest order came after the Supreme Court had, on October 7, directed Yadav to deposit Rs 1.15 crore immediately, with the remaining Rs 85 lakh to be arranged through a prospective buyer of his ancestral property, as part of the proposed payment of Rs 2 crore.

At the time, the CJI-led Bench had expressed displeasure over Yadav’s failure to comply with its earlier directions and indicated that it was inclined to enhance his three-month imprisonment sentence to two years.

The top court had granted Yadav a final opportunity to arrange the payment after finding that its earlier directions had not been complied with.

The Supreme Court is hearing petitions filed by Yadav and his wife, Radha Yadav, challenging the Delhi High Court judgment upholding their conviction in seven cheque dishonour cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The Delhi High Court had, on July 10, upheld the actor’s conviction while reducing his sentence from six months to three months’ simple imprisonment in each of the seven cases. It had also reduced the fine from Rs 1.60 crore to Rs 1.05 crore in each case, with the substantive sentences directed to run concurrently.

The High Court had taken into account payments already made by Yadav to Murli Projects Private Limited during the pendency of the proceedings.

Before the Supreme Court, Yadav and his wife have contended that a subsequent consent agreement between the parties was not properly considered by the courts below. They have relied on the apex court’s judgment in M/s Gimpex Private Limited v. Manoj Goel, arguing that the subsequent agreement ought to have brought an end to the original complaint proceedings.

Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan asked to leave India by October 28

Published

Mumbai, Oct 15: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan has been issued a notice by the Mumbai Police asking him to leave India by October 28, days after he participated in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Action has been taken against Imran under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, and the actor has received a copy of the notice. The actor was detained by the police on October 10 in connection with the protest.

According to the information provided, action has been taken against Imran under the relevant provisions of the Immigration Act for allegedly participating in such a protest despite not being an Indian citizen.

On October 13, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities, urging them to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against actor Imran Khan.

He has also requested that the actor be barred from leaving the country until an inquiry into his complaint and the investigation into a Mumbai police case are completed.

In a letter dated October 13 to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Somaiya called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue directions preventing Khan from travelling abroad under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. He also asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue an LOC against the actor and notify the police should he attempt to leave India.

The move comes after a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10 where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In his letter, Somaiya claimed that the gathering had taken place without the necessary permission. He further alleged that Khan had attended and participated in the protest before Mumbai Police detained him at the venue.

According to the letter, Gamdevi Police Station registered an FIR, numbered 813 of 2026, in connection with the incident, with Khan named in the case. Somaiya also stated that he had not received a copy of the FIR.

Somaiya claimed in his letter that Khan is a US citizen and reportedly holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration to assess whether the actor’s participation in the protest calls for action under Section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Talking about Imran, he first appeared as a child artist in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1998 and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar in 1992. He made his adult acting debut in 2008 with the romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, which was a success.

After the failure of his next two films, he then starred in a number of commercially successful romantic comedies such as I Hate Luv Storys, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and the action comedy thriller Delhi Belly. This was followed by a series of box-office flops and a hiatus.

He was seen in a cameo appearance lately in the Vir Das film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos. It also stars Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Srushti Tawade. The film marked Imran’s comeback roughly ten years after he last starred in Katti Batti in 2015.

The film followed Happy Patel, who is a clumsy but enthusiastic spy whose missions trigger unexpected consequences.

He was seen in a full-fledged role in the 2015 Katti Batti, a romantic comedy film directed, co-produced, and written by Nikhil Advani. The film stars Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles.
