‘Hindus will not forgive temple looters’: Uddhav attacks BJP, announces ‘Ram Raksha’ protest on July 5

Mumbai, July 3: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday accused the BJP of robbing donations from the Ayodhya Ram Temple and announced a statewide agitation beginning with a ‘Ram Raksha’ protest in Mumbai’s Dadar area on July 5.

Addressing a press conference at his residence, Matoshree here, Thackeray alleged that the BJP had “robbed” money donated by devotees at the Ram Temple and demanded accountability. He said the protest would be held near the Hanuman Temple at Dadar Kabutarkhana from 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Thackeray extended an open invitation to all citizens, urging them to transcend party lines. “I invite every Hindu who cannot tolerate this theft in the house of Lord Ram. This is for everyone who hasn’t abandoned Hindutva or the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray. We will gather to recite the Ram Raksha Stotra, Hanuman Stotra, and Hanuman Chalisa,” he said, adding that he would personally lead the protest alongside top party leaders and Shiv Sainiks.

The aggressive stance comes at a time of intense political turmoil within the Thackeray camp, following successive setbacks including the defection of six party MPs to the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the recent exit of close aide Sachin Ahir.

Recalling the history of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Thackeray stated that the BJP’s current political dominance was built on the sacrifices of ordinary Hindus. “The entire country’s Hindu population participated in the movement that built the BJP. We remember the atrocities faced by Karsevaks, the Godhra carnage, the Ahmedabad riots, and what Mumbai endured. Suffering through all of this, Hindus persevered. Capitalising on this, the BJP — which had only two MPs before the movement and followed ‘Gandhian Socialism’ — shifted toward Hindutva and picked up the Ram Mandir issue,” Thackeray said.

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister further alleged that money siphoned from temple donations could be linked to political operations aimed at engineering splits in opposition parties.

“Today, under the BJP regime, the Ram Temple is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Political parties are being engineered to split, lawmakers are being flown to Goa and elsewhere, and horse-trading is disguised under the name of ‘Operations.’ Is the BJP now running an ‘Operation Ram Mandir’? There is evidence that a robbery has taken place at the temple. Some even say this stolen money is being used to split other parties. This is extremely serious,” he said.

Invoking a famous 1990s slogan by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Thackeray issued a stern warning to the ruling party. “Just as Atal Bihari Vajpayee once said, ‘Ab Hindu maar nahi khaayega’ (Now, Hindus will not take beatings), I say, ‘Ab Hindu maaf nahi karega’ (Now, Hindus will not forgive). The Hindu community will show temple looters their rightful place,” Thackeray declared.

Thackeray emphasised that the Dadar agitation is just the beginning of a larger, statewide campaign. Following Sunday’s event, similar protests will be organized across every district, city, and village at local Ram and Hanuman temples, he said.

Noting that the annual Wari (Pandharpur pilgrimage) is underway, Thackeray added that even the Warkaris (pilgrims) harbor deep anger over the alleged temple fraud and will join forces to hold the BJP accountable.

Mumbai, Sep 26: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday trained guns on the Election Commission of India, issuing a joint call to the people of Maharashtra and announcing a grand public protest rally in Mumbai on October 4.

Launching a blistering attack, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS accused the Election Commission of deceiving voters and functioning as an extended wing of the ruling party at the Centre.

While the MNS and Shiv Sena UBT are leading the organisational groundwork for the demonstration, the leaders emphasised that the protest goes beyond partisan politics.

Framing the October 4 rally as a mass public movement, the organisers confirmed plans to engage in dialogue with all political parties across the spectrum to forge a unified opposition front.

“This is a rally of the people. To ensure it does not remain confined to a single party but becomes the collective voice of the entire political system and the citizenry, we will reach out to all political parties to join this front,” the statement read.

The statement framed the upcoming agitation as a decisive battle to safeguard the nation’s democratic framework and institutional integrity.

Calling upon citizens to flood the streets of Mumbai, the movement aims to register a strong protest against what the leaders term institutional bias and voter list manipulation under the SIR process. The venue and exact time for the October 4 Mumbai rally will be officially announced shortly.

The statement concluded with a direct appeal to the public to “participate in this rally in large numbers. Come together to save the democracy of this country and the Constitution of this nation!”

Earlier, launching a scathing attack on the BJP and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, Raj Thackeray demanded the immediate cancellation of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

He accused the ruling party of leveraging key institutional figures to maintain an “endless grip on power” and called upon all opposition parties across the country to unite for a massive agitation to bring back paper ballots.

Mumbai: The All India Muslim Women’s Association organized a two-day seminar at the Saboo Siddik Musafir Khana in Mumbai to foster awareness among Muslim women and take significant steps toward their empowerment and self-reliance. During this gathering, women were apprised of matters concerning religion, worldly affairs, and current events. Addressing the assembly, Dr. Asma Zehra stated that the event was organized in response to the pressing need for awareness in these turbulent times; educational awareness, in particular, is crucial, so the seminar highlighted the true purpose and significance of education. The event saw the participation of female educators not only from Mumbai but also from across Maharashtra and other parts of the country. Dr. Zehra emphasized that education is what brings about awareness in our generations; thus, the seminar was held to enlighten young women and girls, familiarizing them with professional dynamics and societal roles. She noted that while the government attempts to marginalize minorities—pushing for new laws and the implementation of measures like the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)—this very pressure has awakened the Muslim community. The government’s persistent targeting of Muslims has served to fully alert the community, making them vigilant and wary of every maneuver. The seminar aimed to promote education, foster self-reliance among women and girls, and raise awareness regarding women’s rights in society. Farid Shaikh, head of the Mumbai Peace Committee, played a leading role in this event. He stated that the objective of the seminar was to empower women and boost their morale; consequently, this two-day event was organized in Mumbai, drawing the participation of over 500 teachers, women from various fields, and prominent figures from across the country, ultimately proving to be a success.

Mumbai: Fear of demolition drive on slums from October 1

Published

Mumbai: Maharashtra Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Abu Asim Azmi, addressing a press conference at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, demanded an immediate halt to the action against slum structures exceeding a height of 14 feet. He stated that this policy aims to target slum areas such as Mankhurd-Govandi, Malad-Malwani, Kurla, and Saki Naka. He questioned why action is being taken against these residents when they are eligible to vote. Azmi also demanded action against the officials responsible for allowing these unauthorized constructions. He remarked that such policies are formulated specifically to target slums—particularly those inhabited by minorities—and urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to immediately stop this move. He noted that the BMC’s directive regarding the 14-foot height limit has created uncertainty and distress among residents, raising concerns about potential law-and-order issues; therefore, he urged the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of these slums before taking any further action. Speaking about the Election Commission and the FIR, Azmi has branded the Election Commissioner himself a fraudster and a thief, stating that the manner in which irregularities and misappropriation took place has now become evident; consequently, he has demanded the Election Commissioner’s arrest. Additionally, Azmi has called for immediate relief to drought-stricken districts, a formal declaration of drought in Maharashtra, and urgent financial and necessary assistance for farmers. He noted that the UP elections are approaching and announced plans to launch a campaign in Mumbai for natives of North India, while also urging them to participate in the UP elections.
