New Delhi, Feb 8: Avadh Ojha, AAP’s candidate from the Patparganj constituency said he is happy with the second position in the keenly contested election.
Patparganj, once a stronghold of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, has shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this Assembly elections. BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi (Ravi Negi) secured a decisive victory over AAP’s Avadh Ojha, winning by a margin of over 21,000 votes.
Ojha, a first-time candidate and popular online educator-turned-politician, expressed optimism despite the defeat.
Speaking to media, he remarked, “Winning or losing is nothing. This was my first political innings, and I secured the second position. I am very happy with this achievement.”
After nine rounds of the 14-round counting process, Negi had polled 69,104 votes, maintaining a decisive lead over Ojha. Congress candidate Anil Kumar trailed far behind in third place.
Addressing his loss, Ojha acknowledged the voters’ decision and suggested that a change in leadership was likely a factor. “Perhaps the public felt it was time for a change after a long time. They might have wanted to give another party a chance. There is no question of any shortcomings on our part,” he stated.
Despite the defeat, Ojha remains determined to stay in the political arena. “We are heading to Patparganj now. First, I will meet my supporters, then from tomorrow, we will plan our next strategy and hit the ground again,” he affirmed.
Patparganj had been a bastion for AAP, with senior leader Manish Sisodia holding the seat for two consecutive terms before his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case. However, in this election, BJP managed to turn the tide, marking a significant political shift in the constituency.

New Delhi, Feb 8: AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat as election results showed the BJP securing a clear majority in the Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal, who lost his New Delhi constituency seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, accepted the verdict with humility and extended congratulations to the winning party, the BJP.
“The election results for Delhi are out, and we humbly accept the people’s verdict. The decision of the public is paramount, and we respect it with all our heart,” Kejriwal said in a video message.
He congratulated the BJP for its victory and expressed hope that the party would fulfill the expectations of the people. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the BJP on this win. I sincerely hope that they live up to the hopes and aspirations with which the people have given them this mandate,” he added.
Reflecting on AAP’s decade-long governance, Kejriwal highlighted his party’s contributions to education, healthcare, water, electricity, and infrastructure. “In the past ten years, we worked relentlessly to improve schools, hospitals, and essential services in Delhi. We strived to provide relief to people in every possible way and enhance the city’s infrastructure,” he said.
While acknowledging the electoral loss, Kejriwal assured that AAP would continue its service to the people and play a constructive opposition role. “We are not in politics for power. We see politics as a means to serve the people. Whether in government or opposition, we will stand by the people in their joys and sorrows, helping them in any way we can,” he stated.
Kejriwal also praised AAP workers for their dedication and resilience throughout the election. “I want to congratulate all AAP workers who fought this election with immense hard work and determination. They endured a lot but stood strong. I am proud of them,” he said.
As per the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 47 out of 70 seats, while AAP is trailing with 23 seats.
The results mark a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, with the BJP making strong inroads in the capital.

New Delhi, Feb 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep gratitude to the people of Delhi for the BJP’s decisive victory in the Assembly elections, asserting that his government will spare no effort in enhancing the quality of life for the city’s residents.
Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, the Prime Minister hailed the party workers for their relentless efforts in securing this triumph.
“I am so proud of each and every BJP karyakarta who has worked tirelessly, leading to this outstanding result. We will work even more vigorously and serve the wonderful people of Delhi,” PM Modi said.
Emphasising the power of the people’s mandate, PM Modi stated, “Jana Shakti is paramount! Development wins, good governance triumphs. I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to BJP. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings.”
Reiterating his commitment to transforming the national Capital, he added, “It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for its people, and ensuring that the city plays a pivotal role in building a Viksit Bharat.”
The BJP’s landslide victory has been seen as a strong endorsement of the party’s governance model, policies, and leadership, with PM Modi’s popularity continuing to be a driving force in electoral success.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also expressed her gratitude to Delhi’s voters for their overwhelming support to the BJP.
“Thanking the Delhi voters for reposing their faith in the BJP. Under PM Narendra Modi’s guidance and BJP President J.P. Nadda’s leadership, we dedicate ourselves to serving the aspirations of the people of Delhi. I also deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of every karyakarta,” Sitharaman stated.
The BJP stormed back to power in the national Capital — for the first time in over two decades — after routing Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party.

Delhi poll results: AAP’s shock loss and BJP’s big comeback sparks meme frenzy on social media

New Delhi, Feb 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the majority mark as per latest trends of Delhi Assembly election results. Trends till 12:45 PM showed that the BJP secured 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stood at 22 seats.
These developments have ignited a veritable meme fest on social media, with internet users taking playful jabs at Arvind Kejriwal’s APP and the Congress.
One X user shared a meme depicting contestants ready for a race, with the BJP and AAP positioned toward the finish line while Congress is humorously shown heading in the opposite direction — a sarcastic commentary on Congress’ absence from the lead.
Adding to the humour, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) took to X, posting, “According to sources Bhagwant Mann Singh has blocked the phone number of Arvind Kejriwal.”
The meme parade continued with another image featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal inside a wrestling ring, where Kejriwal is shown taking a severe beating at the hands of the Prime Minister.
In a further display of satire, a meme circulated showing a recent video of SP MP Awadhesh Prasad sobbing, with the caption referring to him as “Arvind Kejriwal after seeing Delhi Election Result.”
Another video clip portrays him crying as he views the election results, emphasising that the AAP has not even managed to touch the halfway mark.
Yet another meme depicts Delhi voters fervently hyping the BJP while illustrating the AAP struggling to stay afloat and the Congress figuratively underwater.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also joined in on the social media banter by taking a swipe at the INDIA bloc — particularly Congress and the AAP — after early leads suggested a sweeping victory for the BJP in Delhi.
In a social media post, he quipped, “aur lado aapas mein” (fight each other some more).
The jest continued with a meme showing Congress Minister Rahul Gandhi checking the number of zeroes, a pointed dig at his party for failing to secure even a single seat.
One X user compared former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to cricketer Virat Kohli, humorously portraying him as wiping away tears. Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, is locked in a three-cornered fight against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, and is currently trailing.
The overall contest in Delhi appears increasingly to be a battle between just two parties — AAP and BJP. In one meme, Kejriwal is seen declaring, “Desh mein Modi ki koi hawa nahin hai!!” (There is no Modi wave in the country), only for Prime Minister Modi to retort humorously by urging Kejriwal to remove his muffler and feel the air.
Another meme takes a dig at the former Chief Minister’s renovated residence, referred to as ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ with a caption reading, “Utho Sunita, Sheesh Mahal khaali karne ka waqt aa gaya hai.”
A viral video shows two young girls dancing in a manner that has been compared to Swati Maliwal and Bansuri Swaraj celebrating Kejriwal’s fall, while yet another meme features Game of Thrones’ Khalisi — likened to Swati Maliwal — laughing as the AAP government appears to burn behind her.
The single-phase Delhi Assembly elections were held on February 5, and votes are being counted at the moment. Today’s results will determine whether Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP will return to power for a fourth term or if the BJP will make a significant comeback in the national capital.
Currently, top AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, are in the fray, while BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Kailash Gahlot have taken clear leads.
