Minister extortion case: Accused woman’s associates in touch with NCP-SP leaders, says Maha CM

Mumbai, March 25: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday informed the state Assembly that the associates of an accused woman, who tried to extort money from Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore, were in direct contact with NCP SP leaders Supriya Sule and Rohit Pawar.
The Chief Minister said that the woman has already been arrested by laying a trap, and the police are currently investigating the case.
In his reply to a debate on the motion moved by opposition parties, the Chief Minister said that calls made between the associates of the accused woman with Supriya Sule and Rohit Pawar have been recorded.
“If politics is being done with the intention of removing someone from life, it is not right. The case regarding Gore was registered in 2016, it ended in 2019. He was not even in the ruling party at that time. But then suddenly, this case was revived,” said the Chief Minister.
“I appreciate his (minister’s) courage. A person tries to settle things in such a situation, but he complained after being demanded a bribe from an accused woman. The entire conversation was recorded. There are many clips of the conversation. After the Police Department was convinced, they set a trap. The accused woman was caught while actually taking the cash. Therefore, it was a form of blackmail,” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister hinted at a nexus that was working in this case. “It was a kind of nexus. Three accused in this case have been arrested. One is the woman herself. The second is journalist Tushar Kharat, while the third is a person named Anil Subhedar. All of them had hatched this conspiracy together. All the evidence of this has been found. Their WhatsApp conversations have been found. About 150 of their phones have been found. How they hatched the conspiracy has come to light. But the unfortunate thing is that the Nationalist Congress Party was directly in touch with all of them,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that Prabhakar Deshmukh has spoken to these three accused 100 times directly, adding that the videos have been sent to them.
“They have also responded. But what I feel worse is that Supriya Sule and Rohit Pawar have made calls to Tushar Kharat, who runs a YouTube channel. The videos of Jayakumar Gore have been sent to Sule and Pawar by the accused. It will be investigated. But why is this happening? We are not political enemies, we are political opponents. If a conspiracy is being hatched to take someone’s life in this way, then this is wrong,” he said.

Mumbai Weather Update: Light To Moderate Rains Expected With Cloudy Skies; Konkan Under Yellow Alert

Mumbai: The city woke up to light showers and overcast skies on Thursday as the spell of monsoon rains continued across Mumbai and the Konkan belt. For more than a week, Maharashtra has been witnessing widespread rainfall, with districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar receiving consistent showers ranging from heavy downpours to intermittent drizzles.
In Mumbai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cloudy skies throughout the day with spells of heavy rain in isolated areas. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 29°C, while the minimum will remain close to 25°C. Winds are likely to blow at moderate speeds, adding to the damp conditions.
Thane and Navi Mumbai are also facing similar weather patterns. While certain parts have been lashed by heavy showers, others have experienced lighter drizzle, keeping the ground moist throughout. Officials warned that heavy downpours may lead to waterlogging on stretches of the Central Railway line, potentially disrupting suburban train services.
In Palghar, heavy rain is likely to hit rural areas, with intermittent light showers expected elsewhere. While the rains are proving beneficial for farmers, boosting kharif crops, urban areas such as Vasai and Virar may struggle with flooding and drainage issues.
The situation is no different across the Konkan districts. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg continue to face heavy rainfall, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert. In Raigad, especially in the ghat sections, intense downpours are expected through the day. Ratnagiri has been warned of rising river levels due to consistent rain, while Sindhudurg is forecast to experience not only showers but also strong gusty winds.

Mumbai News: Retired Employee Sues BMC For ₹25 Lakh Over 10-Year Delay In Paying Gratuity

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has disbursed Rs 25 lakh to a retired employee, which includes Rs 16 lakh for gratuity and Rs 9 lakh for interest, after delaying her gratuity payment due to an investigation involving her. Sujata Jadhav, a previous chief clerk, contested the BMC, recognised as the wealthiest municipal corporation but criticised for its management practices. More than ten years after retiring, Jadhav pursued justice in the labour court, resulting in a High Court decision that required her gratuity and interest to be paid.
The court ruled that gratuity must be disbursed within 30 days post-retirement, and if delayed, a 10 per cent interest applies, stressing that it cannot be delayed due to ongoing inquiries. Advocates Prakash Devdas and Vidula Patil represented Jadhav, effectively arguing her case in court.
Devdas commented on the impact of this situation on public finances, condemning the squandering resulting from the BMC’s negligence in meeting legal requirements, which might have avoided unnecessary expenditures. He emphasised the importance of accountability by proposing that the interest paid should be reclaimed from the officials who gave erroneous advice about withholding gratuity.
This situation emphasises a wider problem, as numerous other retired BMC workers face similar violations of their rights because of slight misconduct.
Devdas emphasises the need for prompt payment of obligations and compliance with regulations, claiming that incorrect interpretations of laws or guidance should be rectified to prevent additional misuse of public resources in the future. He determined that safeguarding the rights of retired staff is crucial for ensuring accountability and effective management of funds within the BMC.

Mumbai: After the flood situation and the wrath of rain in Maharashtra, the state government has claimed to help farmers and villages. State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered all ministers to visit the affected villages, after which the ministers are also visiting the affected and flood-affected villages. Due to the flood situation in several villages including Beed and Osmanabad in Maharashtra, more than 100 villages have also been cut off. The situation has further deteriorated due to the increase in the water level of the river. Farmers’ crops have been destroyed.
State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has visited the flood-affected villages in Mahad and assessed the damage. He has said that the villages and farms have been damaged on a large scale. Due to water accumulating in the houses in the low-lying areas, food items and household goods have been damaged. During the flood situation, 22 people have been safely evacuated by NDRF teams. The rescue operation is underway, along with this, there is anger among the people. The government has decided that relief will be provided to all the victims before Diwali. The government has released a fund of Rs 2,000 crore due to emergencies and floods, with this, relief is being ensured. The Chief Minister said that this relief will not be limited to farmers only, but all the victims will be provided relief, including those whose houses were flooded and compensation will be given for the damage caused in low-lying areas.
Dissatisfaction with the pictures of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Pratap Sarnaik in the relief campaign Dissatisfaction was found in Dharashiv Osmanabad over the pasting of pictures of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Pratap Sarnaik on relief and relief kits. The people expressed their displeasure and directed to take back the relief truck. After political publicity in relief works, the people of the state have now raised the question that they were in the rain for two or three days but no one provided them any assistance but now politics is being done on it. On the other hand, the opposition has also criticized it. On this issue, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bankole said that the flood-affected villages need assistance and politics should not be done on it. He said that the allegations being made by the opposition regarding publicity on aid, what did it do in its time? He said that instead of politicizing this matter, there is a need to extend a helping hand.
