The ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has announced six candidates for the forthcoming MLC elections under the MLA quota.

C. Ramachandraiah, Mohammed Iqbal, Karimunnisa, Duvvada Srinivas, Challa Bhageedhara Reddy and Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy are the six nominees.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy confirmed these candidates, said Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, political affairs adviser to the state government while announcing their names.

Two MLC vacancies emerged by virtue of Pilli Subash Chandrabose resigning and going to the Rajya Sabha, and on the passing away of Challa Ramakrishna Reddy.

Ramakrishna Reddy’s son Bhageedhara Reddy is one of the candidates. Iqbal has already served as an MLC once.

Karimunnisa worked as a corporator in Vijayawada while Srinivas is the ruling party’s in-charge for Tekkali constituency in Srikakulam district.

Ramachandraiah is a senior YSRCP leader from Kadapa district whereas Chakravarthy is the son of deceased Tirupati MP Balli Durga Prasad.

Following the death of Prasad, the Chief Minister met with his family members and promised that he would accommodate his son as an MLC.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP has decided that it would not contest the Teacher’s MLC position.

Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that ‘it would be better if a teachers’ representative is present in the Legislative Council for their problems to be properly felt in the council’.

The adviser claimed that the party gave importance to the weaker sections’ representation for the MLC elections.

AAP won’t be deterred by ED notices: Raghav Chadha

AAP-leader-Raghav-Chadha

The Bharatiya Janata Party will not be able to deter Kejriwal’s cadre into submission via summons and notices, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Raghav Chadha said on Wednesday as he accompanied party’s national secretary Pankaj Gupta, who appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office regarding a money laundering case on Wednesday morning.

“Have a look at the timings of these notices. It came at a time when AAP is gearing for upcoming assembly election in the states of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Gujarat and Goa,” said Chadha while briefing media outside the ED office.

Calling the notice a “love letter”, the MLA further said that it is only because of AAP’s politics of sincere work that BJP is scared to such an extent.

“When AAP challenged BJP in its own ‘gadh’ (territory) Surat in Gujarat, it had to change its chief minister. Before that they had to change their chief ministers twice in Uttarakhand. We are confident of AAP coming to power in Punjab and Goa as well and it has only been possible because of our hard work,” he added, urging the saffron party to follow their lead.

Since the time AAP has formed a government in Delhi, we have received a summon or notice every assessment year. How many of BJP party leaders ever been treated the same way, he asked.

On September 13, the Enforcement Directorate issued summons to Aam Aadmi Party national secretary Pankaj Gupta in a money laundering case related to the Punjab former AAP leader.

“Gupta has been asked to join the probe next week,” said a senior officer with Enforcement Directorate adding that he has been summoned in a money laundering case in which Punjab former AAP MLA and Punjab Ekta Party chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira is being probed while also being investigated in a money laundering case.

India’s premier financial investigative agency — Enforcement Directorate — has also taken cognisance of two separate cases relating to drug trafficking and fake passport registered against Khaira.

The ED has alleged that Khaira is an “associate” of drug case convicts and fake passport racketeers.

The case against him pertains to the probe in a 2015 Fazilka (Punjab) drugs-smuggling case in which 1,800 gm of heroin, 24 gold biscuits, two weapons, 26 live cartridges and two Pakistani SIM cards were seized by security agencies from a gang of international drug smugglers.

The 56-year-old politician has denied any wrongdoing and had said he is being targeted by Central agencies as he has been vocal against the Centre’s farm laws.

Five people who were arrested for allegedly vandalising the official residence of AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi will be produced before a Delhi Court on Wednesday.

“They will be produced at the Patiala House Court today,” an official said here.

The incident happened at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when members of Hindu Sena were staging a protest outside Owaisi’s house, located adjacent to the Election Commission headquarters on the Ashoka Road.

DCP, New Delhi, Deepak Yadav had on Tuesday confirmed to IANS that they have detained five people and an FIR under relevant sections was registered against them.

The protesters shattered a lamp atop the main gate and the nameplate of the parliamentarian. The white pieces of the lamp could be seen strewn across the road.

Hindu Sena national President Vishnu Gupta told IANS that he was not aware of the incident and came to know about it through multiple media reports and other sources. He confirmed that some workers of his outfit went to protest there.

“Asaduddin Owaisi has been constantly making anti-Hindu statements and workers might have been feeling agitated due to this,” Gupta said adding, however, one should not adopt unlawful ways to register their protest.

Owaisi, meanwhile, in a series of tweets came down heavily on the present dispensation.

“My Delhi residence was vandalised today by radicalised goons. Their cowardice is well known & as usual they came in a mob, not alone. They also chose a time when I was not home. They were armed with axes and sticks, they pelted stones at my house, my nameplate was destroyed,” he posted on Twitter.

The AIMIM chief alleged the caretaker of his house was assaulted. “The mob shouted communal slogans and threatened to kill me. Raju’s (caretaker’s) grandkids are living in fear now. Raju has filed a complaint with police. Hope action will be taken,” he wrote.

Owaisi said that this is the third incident when his residence, which lies in a high security area of the national capital, has been vandalised by miscreants.

Calling the people who attacked his house as ‘thugs’, Owaisi said he won’t stop his fight for justice and such incidents do not scare him.
