Continuing its probe into the sensational social media racket linked to creating fake ‘followers and likes’, busted last month, the Mumbai Police has investigated at least 20 prominent personalities including rapper Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, alias Badshah, official sources said here on Saturday.
After a 10-hour long interrogation by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) on Friday, Badshah has reportedly admitted to shelling out over Rs. 75 lakh for promoting his music album with fake likes and followers.
He was questioned again on Saturday and is likely to be summoned again on Sunday for other related aspects of the probe, said the sources.
The developments came after the Mumbai Police bust the sensational scam on July 14 through analytical technical-intelligence and nabbed one person, following a complaint lodged by Bollywood playback singer Bhumi Trivedi.
Probing Trivedi’s July 11 complaint that some persons had created her fake Instagram profile and were approaching other celebrities in the entertainment industry with similar offers, the CIU got cracking to expose the mega-scam with international ramifications.
The police are investigating at least 100 Social Media Marketing (SMM) firms and 54 portals all over India, which offer services of generating fake profiles, likes, comments, followers, etc, through fake IDs or bots, on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc, with the alleged ‘followers’ also being used to create social panic through rumours.
Tahir Raj Bhasin: I get bored easily so playing different parts works for me
Actor Tahir Raj Bhasin says while he has always tried to go for variety in characters, it is very normal to get the same kind of roles in Bollywood.
“It’s normal that when one thing does well (you get the same roles), like after ‘Mardaani’ did well, antagonist parts came. After ‘Chhichhore’, college, hostel life, sporty stud (roles) came. Not to say that if I refuse (these roles) it is because of a bad script. It’s just that I wouldn’t want to do it at that time,” he told IANS.
The actor adds that filmmakers prefer casting actors in genres that have worked for them before.
“This happens with every actor. It is normal for a filmmaker to go with a tried-and-tested zone. I enjoy taking risks and exploring different aspects and my own acting talent. That is what interests me,” he says.
“There is enough diverse work out there. If someone is looking at a period film, they will watch Manto, if it’s a college film, they will see Chhichhore. For a lot of new actors, unfortunately, the first thing is the visual,” he says. However, he urges them to showcase their acting abilities on social media.
“You can break that, go outside of your comfort zone. The tools are in your hand. Make selfie videos on Instagram or shoot a small film on your phone, and break the perception. It depends on you as an actor,” he says.
Tahir adds that he doesn’t go for the same roles as it becomes boring for him,
“Some people like to be safe, playing the same parts. I get bored easily, so playing different parts works for me. It’s a conscious decision to be doing something that is different, so that I don’t feel that I did this last month, too,” he says.
Tahir will be seen in the films “Looop Lapeta” and “83” over the next few months, as well as the web series “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein”.
Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe’ on pay-per-view platform same day as theatres
Salman Khan’s Eid 2021 release “Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai” will see a pay-per-view release in the digital space along with its theatrical release on May 13.
The film is scheduled to open theatrically across all Indian states where theatres are operational as per Covid protocols, and will be available on the premium pay-per-view service platform Zeeplex.
“It’s imperative that we all come together and think of out-of-the-box solutions for cinema as an industry during the current pandemic situation. We will support the theatre owners by releasing the film in as many theatres as we can, keeping in line with the rules and protocols laid down by the government. But, considering the guidelines and safety measures, we also need to devise ways to ensure that the film reaches all of our audience. We don’t want to deny the audience the choice of entertainment in the comfort of their homes during these times,” said a spokesperson of Salman Khan Films.
“Radhe” co-stars Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff, and is directed by Prabhu Deva. The film is presented by Salman Khan Films in association with Zee Studios, and produced By Salma Khan, Sohail Khan and Reel Life Production Private Limited.
The film is also scheduled to be released in the Middle East, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Europe, and will be the first Bollywood film to release theatrically in the UK since lockdown last year.
Shariq Patel, Chief Business Officer, Zee Studios added: “The ongoing pandemic forced us to innovate, and we are proud to be the first to embark upon this new distribution strategy. While we all love to catch the latest movies at the nearest theatres, we realised we’d be doing a disservice to Salman’s fans nationwide if we aren’t able to release theatrically in all Indian states. We sensed the need for a pay-per-view solution along with theatres, which gives the consumers flexibility and convenience of viewing the film. There cannot be a better film than ‘Radhe’ to offer the audiences who’ve been waiting for an out and out entertainer for over a year now.”
“We are thrilled to bring ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ on Zee5, India’s multi-lingual online storyteller for millions of entertainment seekers. We feel immensely proud to give this movie scale that it deserves and take it to each and every online screen present in the country via Zee5,” said Manish Kalra, Chief Business Officer, Zee5 India.
Zeeplex is the premium pay-per-view, video-on-demand service of Zee5, and the service is also available across several DTH platforms.
