Palghar stunned by necrophilia, a man raped woman’s corpse

Published

on

People of Palghar were shocked as the sensational case of a shopkeeper – who allegedly killed a 32-year old woman customer and later had sex with her corpse – unravelled at the height of the ongoing lockdown, police officials said here on Saturday.

The accused Shiva Choudhary, 30, owner of a novelty shop in Nalasopara town was arrested on Friday and remanded to police custody till July 12, said crime branch official Santosh Gurjar.

The probe started when a resident of Priyanka Complex on Achole Talav Road registered a complaint with Tulinj Police Station a day after his wife went missing on June 26.

Guarjar said that according to investigations, the victim had gone to make some household purchases at Choudhary’s shop on June 26 and had an altercation with him on the price of some goods.

After the brawl, Choudhary slapped the victim, dragged her by the hair to the back of his shop, tried to strangulate her and then slit her throat with a knife.

Around 3 a.m. of June 27, Choudhary wrapped her body and carried it to a jeep van parked around half a km from his shop and dumped it there.

A day later on June 28, locals complained of a foul stench emanating from the van and alerted the police. A team was rushed to find the body which was later identified by her husband.

The autopsy report also made the shocking revelation – that she had been sexually assaulted after her murder.

Hot footing into the probe, police teams fanned out in the area and after scanning the CCTV footage of the neighbourhood, zeroed in on the possible suspect Choudhary.

“He was picked up and during sustained interrogation, confessed to murdering the woman and then having sex with her corpse. Thereafter, he was placed under arrest and further investigations are on,” Gurjar told IANS.

A police official said that Choudhary was living alone in the shop as his wife and children are in Pali village of Rajasthan since nearly a year, and could not control his urge after killing the woman.

“He had no previous acquaintance with the victim and we shall also probe whether he had any mental issues after he violated the body,” said the official.

Gurjar, who helped crack this first of its kind case in the district, said the accused is charged with murder and rape.

7 die in Andhra Covid care centre fire.

In a shocking incident, seven persons were killed in a fire that broke out at a paid Covid Care Centre run from a hotel by a private hospital here early Sunday morning, officials said.

Officials earlier said three persons had died in the mishap, while four others were shifted to a hospital. With four more casualties, the death toll had increased to seven at the time of filing of the report. The victims included two women.

Police officials did not rule out more casualties in the early morning fire as the condition of two of the centre’s staff, who jumped from the first floor to escape, is said to be serious.

Around 50 persons, including 30 coronavirus patients, were reported to be present at the Covid treatment facility set up at Hotel Swarna Palace when the tragedy struck.

City Police Commissioner Srinivasa Rao said that the fire broke out around 5 am.

According to initial information, suffocation due to smoke emanating from the fire is said to have caused most casualties.

Firefighters were rushed to the spot who rescued the treatment centre’s inmates with the help of ladders and rushed them to nearby hospitals in 15 ambulances.

Preliminary investigation found that a short circuit was the likely cause of the fire that started on the ground floor of the building. It later spread to the first floor that had been converted into a Covid care centre.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and sorrow over the incident and ordered an inquiry.

State Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas, who represents Vijayawada West Assembly constituency, visited the spot and supervised rescue operations.

The Minister said the inquiry will look into whether it was an accident or failure on part of the hospital management.

Sunday’s fire accident is the latest in a series of mishaps to strike Andhra Pradesh in the last few months.

In May, a gas leak in Visakhapatnam at LG Polymers had left 12 persons dead. Recently, 12 persons had died after consuming sanitisers due to alcohol addiction.

Unique police cafe opens in Muzaffarnagar

Published

on

After setting up a washing line for police personnel in April this year, Muzaffarnagar SSP Abhishek Yadav has now opened a ‘police cafe’ in the district.

The cafe will serve healthy organic meals, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, ‘daliya’, ‘poha’ and food cooked in olive oil. The cafe also has a gym attached to it.

“Policemen need to follow a highly exhaustive schedule of duty that seldom gives them the opportunity to avail of a proper diet. Cases of hypertension, diabetes and stress are common among the UP police force. This facility is aimed at alleviating such health problems. Improper diet and lack of awareness for a healthy lifestyle were also the reasons behind opening such a unique cafe,” the SSP said.

The police department has hired trained chefs and deliverymen who will run the cafe along with police staff. Next to the cafe, a gym with all modern equipment was also ‘gifted’ to the cops.

The air-conditioned police cafe that has eye-catching interiors will also serve jaggery-added drinks – as using sugar in any product here is ‘banned’.

SSP Yadav said he had worked on the idea for nearly six months.

“This unique concept will be upgraded once we start getting more feedback. It may be then introduced to other police stations as well,” the SSP added.

The cafe will also deliver food orders to various city spots and will remain open till 9 pm.
