Mumbai News: 5 Officers Injured After Stones Pelted On Cops, BMC Officials During Demolition Drive In Powai

Mumbai: In a shocking incident from city’s Powai area, stones were pelted on police and BMC officials during a demolition drive on Thursday. The sudden attack by locals on cops and BMC officials left a total of 5 officers injured. Heavy police deployment was done in the area immediately after the incident.

A video of the incident shows a huge mob of locals holding flags in protest of the authorities. Within moments, it is seen that the mob resorts to stone pelting as police and BMC officials move back for their safety.

Demolition Drive Stopped After Stone Pelting

Soon after the incident that occurred around 1 pm, the BMC stopped the anti-encroachment drive, a civic official “Locals hurled stones at the policemen and the BMC team when an anti-encroachment drive was underway in Jai Bhavani Nagar of Powai,” he said.

Cylinder Blast In Chembur

Meanwhile, in another incident, at least nine people were injured in a cylinder blast in Mumbai’s Chembur area today morning, according to an update by the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

According to the update by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Mumbai Fire Brigade (BMC’s MFB), the fire was reported on the morning of June 6, 2024, at 7:37 am behind the Smoke Hill Saloon near the Golf Club on C.G. Gidwani Road in Chembur.

The fire, caused by an LPG cylinder blast, was confined to the electric wiring and wooden furniture in a ground-plus-one structure. The blaze was successfully extinguished by 8:08 am.

Nine people were injured in the fire and were taken to Govandi Shatabdi Hospital for treatment. The fire department’s quick response helped prevent further damage and injuries, ensuring that all affected individuals received timely medical attention.
