Mumbai: WR Temporarily Cancels 2525 Local Train Services To Expedite 6th Line Construction Between Khar Road & Goregaon

In an endeavor to expedite the construction of the highly-anticipated 6th line between Khar Road and Goregaon stations, Western Railway has announced the temporary cancellation of 2525 local train services between October 27th and November 6th, 2023.

An official stated, “The cancellation of approximately 2525 local train services may inconvenience local commuters but holds the promise of a better future.”

This ambitious 8.8 km extension project holds the potential for significant benefits for commuters in the region.

A block has been in effect since October 7, 2023, with non-interlocking work for the construction of the 6th line scheduled to take place from October 26th to November 5th, 2023. During this period, there will be a temporary cancellation of local train services, with 256 local train services on October 27th, 256 local train services on October 28th, 230 local train services on October 29th, and 316 local train services from October 30th to November 3rd. Additionally, on November 4th, 93 local train services, and on November 5th, 110 local train services of the Western line will be canceled.

Minimize disruptions and inconvenience

A senior officer of Western Railway has assured passengers that meticulous planning is in place to minimize disruptions and inconvenience. “The construction project is already underway, with a block in effect since October 7, 2023. Non-interlocking work for the 6th line is scheduled to occur from October 26th to November 5th, 2023,” he said.

“The construction of the 6th line not only aims to enhance punctuality but also lays the groundwork for additional train services in the near future, ultimately benefiting the Mumbai Suburban section,” said an official. Commuters are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly during this temporary inconvenience, with the reassurance that these efforts are aimed at delivering a more efficient and convenient railway network.

The Western Railway operates 1394 services daily on weekdays, serving an average of around 30 lakh passengers who rely on these local trains daily.
